How Did Your Body Handle The Switch From Liquids To Solids?

Recommended Posts

Just curious, I will have been on liquids for three weeks and will be making the change to solids soon, I was wondering how you handled it, did you have bad tummy cramps? What about weight gain? I think that is my biggest concern, is weight gain..Any tips...

Thank you!!

I didn't gain any weight, but my losses did stop for about 2 weeks when I transitioned to solid foods. It's totally and completely normal. I know that no one wants to hear this, no matter how many times earlier bandsters say it, but the time between your surgery and your first fill is NOT about weight loss; it's about healing from the surgery and learning how to eat as a banded person. Either maintaining or gaining a small amount of weight is perfectly normal and even expected in the first month or two before getting a fill. It's important not to look at it as a personal failure or a failure of the band, but as a normal part of the banding process. Any gain WILL come off once you begin to get restriction, so long as you follow the rules of banded eating.

Best of luck! :)

I'm assuming you'll have a mushy stage before real solids. Cottage cheese, yogurt, creamy Soup, applesauce, stuff like that. I didn't have any problems moving to mushies but you need to concentrate on eating slow, very slow...taking time between bites! Don't drink any liquids before or after you eat. Make this habit early and it will make things alot easier moving forward. good luck on your journey!

Thank you!!!! The way my doctor has me set up is, one week Clear Liquids, second and third week full liquids, meaning all kinds of broths, Protein Shakes and drinkable yogurts. Then from there I go straight to solids.. So was not sure about the weight gain, and how it will affect my tummy...I guess time will tell!!!

ah, I am sure you will do fine! Especially if you can survive liquids for 3 weeks, I was dying! I started soft foods on day 12.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
