I start soft foods tomorrow. What are some good foods that I can eat? Also, what portion size should I adhere to? The guidelines I received said 1/4 cup, but the sample menu they gave me had closer to 1 cup of food per meal.

I tired to stick at around half a cup. tuna, chicken, and egg salads are good soft foods, as are eggs in general, especially poached or scrambled. I ate a lot of tuna and chicken salad when I first started soft foods. They give you lots of Protein but are still easy enough to get down. :)

I am almost 7 weeks post-op and I have been on soft foods for about 2 weeks. They told me to eat about 3/4 to 1 cup of food per meal. I have been eating egg whites, turkey bacon, baked fish such as tilapia or flounder, mashed potatoes, veggies cooked soft, baked chicken & greek yogurt just to name a few. I have found as long as I chew very well that I don't have any problems. I eat 4 times a day and 2 of the times are Protein Shakes. Hope this helps you..... Good luck..

Are Beans a good soft food? I've been wanting some good ole' pinto beans. :) That may not be good for the gas pains I've been having.

I had egg salad the other day I'm three weeks out and it kinda just got stuck in my chest area.. not sure if I ate too fast or too much or both but I won't be trying that again. oatmeal also. I'm starting to think I can't eat anything but soup!

Yes pinto Beans are good for you. High in Protein & Fiber, as long as you cook them good and mash them before you put them in your mouth and chew chew....

@ kr8160311, I thought I was going to have to live on Protein Shakes the whole time but I started with one food at a time and just took my time and so far I can eat a good many things. I have not tried beef yet though. I am a little scared.

im wondering how beef would be cooked in a slow cooker for a good 6 hours.

When you guys are saying egg salad, chicken salad, or tuna salad, you don't mean like mixed up with mayo or low fat mayo. I guess what I mean is, how exactly do you prepare, these, "salads" ?

Yup, the meat needs to be "lubricated." To keep fat down, I mixed my tuna or shredded chicken with a little lite mayo, then if it needed to be moister, I would avoid adding more fatty mayo by substituting plain Greek yogurt for the rest of the mayo. And don't forget to add flavor! I usually use salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a little sweet pickle relish in my salads. I like celery, too, but at the beginning of the soft foods phase, it can be a little too fibrous to work well with the band.

I just came back from a meeting with my nutritionist and I am 7 weeks post op, she said I needed to start eating different meats because I have been eating mainly fish & chicken. She even mentioned a roast cooked in the crock pot would be very tender and something good for me to eat as long as it is very lean. So I would say it would be great for you in small portions.

I boil my eggs, mash them up, and put mayo and salt/pepper in there. I don't know why it is called salad, however.

I boil an egg, mash it up, add a can of tuna and 1 tablespoon of mayo. I leave a little of the Water from the tuna can so it's pretty moist then I add a sprinkle of garlic or salt and mix it all. Yummmmm. Sometimes I can eat it all, sometimes I leave some for another time

yes, thats what i thought. i was thinking of doing the same with chicken. i use the crock pot a lot

I did Lima Beans and pulled chicken. I used broth and a tiny bit of butter to moisten chicken. Cheap, easy and lots of Protein. I also did Honeybaked Ham. I cut into small pieces and it went down very easily. I trimmed off fat and glaze.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
