Waiting For Insurance Approval...how Long?

Recommended Posts

I know each insurance is different, but hown long did you have to wait between submitting to your insurance and when they approved it. I'm not talking about how long did it take to meet all the requirements (ie 6 months supervised weight loss...) but how long from the time you met all the requirements and submitted until you got the approval letter.

Can you tell I'm submitting to insurance this week?

Bcbsil approved me within a week. Nurse told me it would be at least 2-3 weeks so I was pleasantly surprised.

anthem bcbs approved me in two weeks. I think they have a max of 30 days to approve or deny.

I received a denial letter today from Cigna. Cigna requires 6 month supervised diet and my Doc office submitted early by 2.5 weeks. Cigna also said I was under 18 and they cannot approve. LOL... I haven't been a teenager in a very long time.

Edit: Information was submitted on 3/15 and the denial came today so it was a quick turn around telling me to go pound sand....

Anthem "couldn't find" my paperwork after 4 weeks. It was resubmitted and we had approval within a week.

So it sounds like most people heard back relatively quickly. I am trying not to be too impatient, which is hard for me. I will contact my dr office tomorrow to see if they have submitted(hopefully already) and how long they think it will be.

Jim- are you resubmitting once you are officially at 6 months?

United Healthcare, it only took a few days but my nurse said I have a very good ins plan. They expected it to be a couple of weeks but it only took about 3 days. Good luck.

Center I am going through already faxed additional information to Cigna. I pointed out that I am shy by a few weeks of 6 months and the person I am working with said that is OK. We'll see what happens...

I have United Healthcare, and like Wheety the nurse I'm working with also said that my insurance plan is a dream to work with. On the timeline they gave us in the WLS Seminar it said to allow 2-6 weeks for approval or denial, she said she almost always gets approval within just a few days.

I got a letter from my surgeons office yesterday saying that they submitted to my insurance and if I don't hear anything by two weeks to call the insurance company. So the surgeon's office is on it! Hopefully I won't have to wait the whole two weeks, and hopedully I'll get approved.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
