Someone Please Save Me From Junk Food!

Recommended Posts

So I'm almost 6 mts out, 60 lbs down including 20 lost before surgery. Since I started full solids, I cannot seem to stop eating junk. Today I did great all day. Egg for bfast, crackers and hummus for lunch, salad for dinner. Then the chocolate craving hit. I ate 2 scoops of ice cream and half a butterfinger. WHAT is wrong with me? I need another fill, yes, but I don't think any restriction is ever reached with junk food. Makes me almost wish I had bypass instead if band.

R u logging ur food? When I want something I shouldn't have and my head hunger talks me I to it, I log it. When I see how many calories it is, I just can't do it to myself!

first thing remember you are human hunny......I always had a little something here or there for my cravings, would buy fat free ice cream or yoghurt...etc. I call it head hunger. It is not that your body is craving food, your brain is wanting comfort is something that is supposedly naughty...Take the naughtiness out and the guilt hunny by saying I can find something that is low fat, low sugar that will ease my cravings....For me this was a life change and a total change of what I eat, but I have taken the guilt out of my eating as it was sending me insane.....I have a little of things that I enjoy. With my first banding before the revision, I had gone from 209kg (459 pounds) to 149kg(327 pounds) in just over 13 months. I predominantly ate well and looked after Lola, but there were times that I had a little chocolate, a little ice cream or indulged in something I really wanted.....go gently hunny, think of what you would say to your best friend in the same position.....and then think that of yourself!! xoxo

good luck

I don't see much Protein there!

Protein can curb hunger most of the day.

Without it, your body starts to scream for something (cravings) and you try to satisfy it with junk food, which only makes it scream out all the more.

I start the day with about 1/2 of my required daily protein, 45gms, and that, along with the band curbing appetite, seems to take care of binging on junk food.

Also, I am not so up tight that I cannot enjoy my favorite junk foods Snacks either. I still have Cookies, chips etc. It's just not overwhelm me anymore.

I now eat and think the same way a skinny person does. I know plenty of skinny people who eat junk food. They are just not pigs about it.

What works with me is to have some special K bars around the house. Once I feel an inkling of a sweet tooth I eat one, then this need for sweetness goes away. But you need to eat it before the cravings get really big, catch it early before your mind starts thinking about it too much. Special k bars are quite filling, it's hard to eat more than one and they are only 90 calories and 1g of fat each.

Also, keep these things like ice cream and Cookies out of your house. It's too tempting when they are a few steps away.

Finally give yourself once or twice a week where you can eat smth you like. A scoop of ice cream or a chocolate bar. Gives you smth to look forward to.

Bypass wouldn't change your craving. Two friends had bypass, one is doing awesome, lost the weight and does all hes supposed to. The other hasn't hardly lost any and even though sweets make her sick at first, she eats past it. Every wls is what you make it. Good luck!

The more junk food you eat the more you will crave it, get rid of it out of the freezer and house. If you are hungry still then snack on food that is good for you not on food that is unhealthy and addictive.

It isnt called junk food for nothing :)

good luck !

I've been eating chocolate more too lately. I said yesterday for the next 2 days (starting slow, but will try to extend it) no regular chocolate. My trainer told me though if I want chocolate to eat a square of Lindt 85% dark chocolate. She said it will digest slowly and will help you not want more. I did have a piece yesterday, but it was kind of hard to eat (not a huge dark chocolate fan and this was really dark) but it definitely made me not want more. So I'm going to try it today when I'm craving chocolate.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
