Im just curious. I found when I was going through the pre-op diet, everyone had something different their doctors told them to do. Some were told to do nothing, others were told follow a adkins/south beach diet......some like me where put on 2 Protein shakes a day and a light meal for dinner.....and then others (bless their hearts) were put a strict all liquid diet.

So now that we are all on the other side, how different are the post op diets for the first few weeks?

I'm 2 weeks liquid only followed by 2 week puree follwed by 2 more weeks of mushie

well, im in australia... my pre op diet was zilch. it was normal eating for me. no restrictions at all. The first 18 hours after surgery i just had ice and Water. then when i got home i introduced some coffee, some other clear fluids like chicken broth, bonox, etc. ive also had some low fat milk with greek yoghurt. very watery but nice. put in blender. ive had some Protein powder but not a lot yet. ive had one meal of baby food, watered right down. that tasted really good. just one meal of that so far. after the first week i can have eggnogs, pureed foods ,smoothies.all has to be low on roughage or fibre.

In general I think most doctors use a similar plan: clears for several days, then full liquids for several days, puree's for a week, mushies for a week. Some change how long they want you on each stage. Part of it may be due to how THAT doctor installs the band. Whether it has more/less stiches connecting it to the body.

If you have not viewed a live surgery on YouTube I higly recommend it. No blood at all as they use a cauderizing (sp) took to go through the tissue to get to the stomach. Seeing what your body has gone through really helps you keep to the doctors orders about food progression.

I have read several posts of people who decided the day after surgery they were hungry and went to MC'D's and had a hamburger! I would'nt want to be them and have to explain that to the surgeon when their band slipped!

The day after surgery I was allowed to have mushies and at my two week check up I was told I could eat soft meat, cooked veggies, and less fibrous fruits...

I totally agree with honk! I watched scope of utube surgeries. Our bodies go thru a lot with this surgery. We have to let ourselves heal!

Pre op was 800 cal a day. Basically 2 Protein shakes and a lean cuisine.

Post surgery was week one: liquid, week two: mush, week three: soft foods, week four: normal.

I'll tell you...week 2 the oatmeal tasted like a steak! :P

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
