New Band- Slippage

Recommended Posts

My 1 year anniversary was on Wednesday.. I had to get a new band on Tuesday because it slipped. I lost 110 pounds since surgery last year but the past 2 months I wasn't sticking to what I was doing and it slipped! It was awful

Do you think it was all down to your eating habits? I'd be inclined to asking for an extra stitch to hold it in place lol x

wishing you well x

OMG!! OK I want to know EVERYTHING. How did you figure out the band slipped? Were you not able to eat/ keep anything down OR did you just stop feeling restriction? May I ask what band you have (lap Band or Realize?) I've lost 110 but gained 30 because I haven't felt any restriction...My doc put me up to 11CCs...I'm freaking out here!!!

Ive had the band since March 2011. Lost about 60 pounds first six months. After that it was a constant up and down of 3-5 pounds, Kept going for fills and having to have them taken out after a week or two because of too much restriction / chking feeling. Had endoscopy two weeks ago and found out my band slipped upward. Had it repaired and stitched on Monday, in an emergency surgery. Home recovering this week and hoping that this never happens again. After reading up lots about what makes ppl's bands slip, like eating too much, drinking carbonated beverages and not chewing I dont think I did any of those things. Good luck everyone! Always chew beyond what you think is enough!

I'm glad you are good now. What is the main reason why bands slip? I'm curious. Thanks

My band slipped because I threw up and pb'd too much....I am sure it can happen for other reasons.....my first symptom was reflux....

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
