3 Months, 33 Lbs, Very Happy

Recommended Posts

I read this forum a lot prior to getting my band, and I thought it would be good to post an update for those who are waiting/deciding/nervous.

I am very happy with my band. I started at 250, and 3 months and a few days later, I'm down to 217. It has been a very smooth process. My constant hunger is gone. I feel in control of my eating. I can eat pretty much whatever I want as long as I go slow and chew. I don't try to diet at all -- I just go with what feels right and good to eat, and so far, so good.

Anyway, just thought I'd add to the success stories here. I still have a ways to go, but I'm feeling so much better and am very happy with my decision to get a band. :)

Congrats! That's exactly what I'm hoping for. I was banded in Sept but haven't found my groove yet. Any secrets to your success?

Good news, we need more positive stories as sometimes those doing well don't say anything and then newbies get the impression that it is all bad.

I was banded 3-1-12 and am down 26 lbs (30 by my scales) officially! Just had my first fill today and can't wait to see how I do now! I love my band and am so happy I made this decision. I was scared day of surgery but it was breezy and really recovery was not bad at all

Glad to read good things. I had my band surgery Jan 30th,2012. Down 23 pds. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I would rather do this than go to the dentist. Good luck to all.

Agreed that newbies need to read positives as well as negative things about the band. I was banded on 1/27 and am currently down 33 pounds. I have 8.5 in my 14cc band and starting to feel a little restriction. By that I mean I am going longer beween meals without as much hunger as before. I'm not at the green zone yet but feel like it is closer then ever. I have been pretty much white knucklin' through the bandster hell(when you have the band but no restriction) with exercise and good food choices. You can do it but you have to work at it, the band does not work magic.

way to go ! Im 3 months out and have gone from 225 to 199 ! Onederland ! Feels good to lose that weight finally , doesnt it ? for the person who asked for advice, find a exercise class that you can stick with (mines a hard Water fitness class 3x a week ) and try to make healthy food choices. my hubbys diabetic, so 99 % of the food in our house is healthy, but when i crave something sweet i have weight watchers ice cream or frozen yogurt or frozen sugar free pudding (it taste like ice cream ). A excellent book to get is "Pick it, Kick it" by Diane Hart , Excutive Editor of Oxygen Magazine. good luck !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
