I get banded on Wednesday (March 28th) and am just thinking of all the things that can go wrong! Someone please help me out here!! I worry that even though I'm sticking to this pre-op diet--no cheating at all--that for some reason my liver won't be small enough. And I'm worried something will happen in the operating room. And I worry that I just won't lose the weight. Anyone else have these fears? Or know how to put them at ease?!

I'd be worried if you weren't worried.

It is normal to worry.

But don't worry you will be fine. Banding is the safest of all the WLS and it is very low risk. If you stick to the rules and make an effort you will lose weight.

All the best for Wed.

I think its normal to be worried, you should just relax and think positive. Think about your new life that is about to begin.

You'll be fine!

Good Luck!

The week of surgery was my most worrisome time. I couldn't sleep. I constantly thought of everything that could go wrong, and your exact thoughts crossed my mind. I worried that I wouldn't wake up from surgery, that I'd never be successful with it, and that I would have a hard time giving up those foods that everyone said I'd never be able to eat again! I spent the last 48 hours before my surgery looking at every before/after photo I could find. I just tried to keep a positive outlook and kept looking for those stories of patients that had seen great success, as I was SO nervous and needed to hear that it does work!

In a couple of days I will hit my 6-month mark since surgery, and I am astounded at the progress I've made with this tool. I'm so happy I am literally glowing! If you know it's the right decision for your lifestyle and situation, the benefits greatly outweigh any risks out there.

Stay strong! And spend the next couple of days buying lots of low-sodium broth, sugar free popsicles, and G2... you'll need it by the end of the week!

Good luck on your journey! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
