Do you honestly think it's a good idea to tell a brand new bander (This person was three days post op when she posted.) how to sneak in as many alcohol calories into her diet as possible? At three days post op you should be concentrating on healing and setting up good habits for the future. You act like I'm so anti alcohol. I'm not. But no' date=' I don't think a person three days post op should be drinking. I'm an RN, alcohol that soon after surgery IS NOT good for you. But if you can't give it up long enough to heal it's not my problem.

The truth is alcohol should not be a majority of your diet. Period. And giving new banders ideas at how to sneak in MORE alcohol is not good. Justify it anyway you want but it's not.[/quote']

Hi Ducker-

If it weren't for the "I'm an RN" I wouldn't interject myself into this thread, but it bothers me. It bothers me because instead of cultivating a positive response to the subject of this thread, you have made this rather personal and judgmental... And then toss in your license to somehow lend credence or justification to your statements.

Being a Registered Nurse, you might recall the importance of withholding preconceptions or bias as it relates to other individuals. Failing to do so discredits yourself and the profession.

Cheers,

Jason "The Nightshift Nurse"

I feel bad that this post has become so negative! I think it's okay to have some alcohol if you like to, after your doctor's okay, and as long as you keep track of the calories. Yes, this IS a lifestyle change but some of us want to have alcohol in our lives for whatever reasons. I just want everyone to succeed at their goals and have a fabulous life, whether they drink or don't. We're all here for the same reasons - support!

Nightshiftnurse and marketing dude.... Thank you guys so much for putting my exact feelings in writing....sometimes I just can't write what I'm feeling incase it comes out too negative....I rather just stay quiet and ignore the ignorance. And by the way, I too am a nurse now that we are all out there.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
