Don't want to sound like I'm an alcOholic or anything, but at times I enjoy a glass of red wine. I'm 2 weeks post op, have a bridal shower I'm hosting on April 1st and was wondering of its ok to drink? I totally forgot to ask the doctor. And if so has anyone had any issues with drinking? I know it's empty calories...

My doctor says no alcohol. I'd check with your doctor since all are so different. Good luck!

You need to be upfront with your Dr about alcohol use. I had turned 21 a couple months before so I told him plan on drinking once in a while. After all the reason I got the band was I could live a fun and more enjoyable life. Listen to your drs suggest about when you can start. Remember alcohol is empty calories but I always say they are damn good empty calories. Also remember since your losing weight and eating less you are going to be more of a lightweight. Also you should search the forum cause this topic has come up before, so you can get more input.

First, always check with your doctor and follow his or her advice. That being said, I had my first glass of wine about 3-4 weeks after surgery. Neither my nutritionist nor my doctor ever said I had to cut out alcohol. What they DID say was to treat it like any other high-calorie/low-nutrient food and keep consumption low to avoid weight gain. I do find that since I'm eating fewer calories, the alcohol does go to my head a little faster, but I was a cheap date before banding, so it's not exactly a drastic difference.

I'm 7 weeks post-op and I had a glass of wine with my dinner tonight. It was delicious :)

Do not drink alcohol! There is ethanol and it is acidic, I suggest not eating or drinking anything really acidic or off to the scale of base.

I don't know where you got your info on that one, but I can assure you the ph of alcohol is normally 7.0, though sometimes the range 6.0 to 7 is more accepted. Water has a ph of 7.0 so by this reasoning you should drink water either. With the understanding that 7.0 is neutral.

I am only 1 week post op and had my first glass of wine last night.I have my follow up tomorrow and plan on being completely honest about what I eat and drink everything is in my log . don't know if the dvd with facts about the lapband was given to everyone . but it talks about alcohol specifically red wine . video does not specify exactly when you can start drinking wine. but it said studies showed that patient who had a glass of red wine in the evening lost more weight than patient who didn't . it also states that they did not do studies with other spirits ...only red wine . I am only quoting the video information that was given to me ....I have watched that part of the dvd over and over again I was in heaven when I heard that news! this video was given to me twice 1 at the clinic before the surgery ..... and again at the surgery center after I was banded. it's the video on the 8 golden rule ...that came with the book and the food log and the 1 minute hourglass . I'm sure not all clinics give out the same packet . but I was so glad that mine did .

I have experienced that alcohol really allows me to eat because I get very relaxed. It's a slippery area to enter... For me anyway and I'm not an alcoholic. It I do enjoy a glass of wine occasionally but it is just that....empty calories.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
