I was banded thursday. As a nurse it has always been drilled into my head that one must have Protein to heal. The post op diet my dr gave me is 7 days of Clear Liquids, 7 days of full liquids, and then seven days of full liquids and Protein Shakes. Never any mushies, straight to regular diet after 21 days. I am concerned that 7 days of clear liquids will leave me at risk for poor healing... But then Again, I was Getting 80 to 100g of protein pre op... Is that enough to sustain? Thoughts, anyone?

I had chicken and beef broth after a couple days which added Protein. My doctor stresses protein all the time from pre to post and still now 6 months later. After a week I was back to Protein Shakes then soft foods. They say your new stomach is like a babies so from liquids touch to soft foods then you learn what you can and can not eat. Bananas and fries do not work at all for me (even baked kind).

You can always buy the newhey Protein shots about 2.5 oz of Protein "shots" . What I do is when I need a little boost is drink some or add some to a bottle of Water and sip all day. Wish I had known about these when I had had surgery, I wouldnt have worried so much. I purchase mine at walmarts, I like the generic brand not as sweet.

Good luck (the generic has 26 grams of protein I belive the newhey has 42)

In addition to using the New Whey once a day.I also bought Unjury unflavored Protein power. I measure me out 2 scoops and sit it on the counter. All through the day I take a teaspoon out and mix it in my broth, Jello, juices.....when my bowl is empty, I know I have enough protein in me. By mixing a little into everything, I don't notice it as much. Makes it much easier

I'll give that a try as well! How are you feeling? I think we were banded within 24 hrs of each other... And I saw you had a rough time of it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
