Bringing Protein Powder On The Plane?

Recommended Posts

Hi, all.

So, my surgery day is Tuesday and I'm going to see Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. That means my happy butt is going to be hopping on a plane.

It just occurred to me that I'm not sure how to go about getting Protein powder (I have the big two lb tubs) onto the plane. I can't rely on Tijuana having some for purchase once I get there. Haha.

Is it only liquids that are regulated by TSA or would powder be too?

I was thinking that I would just separate single servings into little bags, but is that allowed?

If it's not in carry-on, you're fine. I will be traveling this weekend and so I have a checked bag that I will be putting pre-made Protein Shakes in. I have read through the TSA site that medically required liquids are not subject to the Fluid rules, but don't know quite how you would get past that.

It's gonna have to be in a carry on because I'm not checking any bags.

I would phone the airline and ask them about it :)

I carried the powder on the plane just keep it in original container. I also took Protein Bars with me on the plain. Just no liquid.< /p>

I just googled it and found what TSA said.

powders aren't banned. It's all about liquids. :)

How long are you staying in Tijuana? I also had my surgery done there ( different surgeon ) and I was still on Clear Liquids three days after my surgery when I was flying back home.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
