Scared To Gain Before First Fill!

Recommended Posts

I wad banded March 19th. On full liquids for two weeks then mushies for two weeks. First fill a month from surgery. I am currently scared to drink anything except my Water. I do drink 8oz of carnation instant Breakfast and 4oz of my cream Soups a day. Equals around 320 calories a day. I am down 9 lbs since surgery. Without soutending like a complete idiot, what can or should I be doing?

I don't understand...why are you afraid to drink anything?

Is it because you're afraid you might gain weight?

Everybody looses weight from the post surgery diet. How can you not.

After 4 weeks, I went back on regular food, and I gained weight.

After that period, you are all healed, and back to NORMAL, just as you were before the surgery. You may have the band now, but it is not doing anything yet. It can take a few fills before the band gets adjusted properly and starts to do what it was supposed to do.

So right now you are dieting just as though you do not have a band at all. I don't know about you, but I stink at dieting. Failed every time. If I was good at dieting, I would not have needed to get this surgey!

In spite of all that, I met my weight loss goal in 13 months. So don't get discouraged this early in the game.

What does your doctor want you to be eating? Mine wanted me to have 3 Protein Shakes a day and 3, 8 oz cups of stock. Sounds to me like you are not getting enough Protein. Your body needs protein to heal. CIB does not have have any where near enough protein.

Cib w skim milk has about the same as a Protein Drink. My doc wants me to drink about 2 a day w yogurts, cream Soups w skim milk, sf puddings. I guess I just have so many people knowing and watching to see how I do w this that I'm afraid to not lose. Plus in all honesty, I am not hungry. Thanks B52 that was encouraging.

I would be worried that you're not getting enough Protein also.

Do you know how many grams a day you are getting? My pre-op diet has 95g per day and my post-op has 60-100g per day. Also how many calories are in your CIB when mixed with skim milk? The Protein shakes I have have 100 cal per 8 oz and 15g of Protein. Since I haven't looked at CIB I don't know how it compares. My understanding is we have to make our calories work for us by getting our protein in first. I'm also worried that by getting only 320 cal a day you may be messing up your metabalism. I think you should give your doctors office a call and ask for advice before your first fill. Hope this helps!

I am scared of gaining too. I have my wedding in April. I have "lose it" an app that tracks my calories. I am keeping it under 1,600 a day which is very hard being banded under a month with no restriction. I am determined at least not to gain!

Thanks all, for your advice. I am going to start thinking sensibly, I know I need the Protein & calories or I will set myself up for failure. Its just hard to let go. I am an all or nothing kind of girl! P.S. Good luck with the wedding!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
