Changing2012 7 Posted March 23, 2012 Hi everyone, has anyone heard of insurance companies denying lapband because of your bmi being above 50, but will approve gastric?!?! What's the difference? Shouldn't that be the patients choice of which weightloss surgery they want? I'm confused!! Sent from my SCH-I400 using LapBandTalk
waitingpatiently 250 Posted March 23, 2012 yes i have. since lapband statistics say a person is likely to lose 50% of their excess weight most patients with a bmi 50+ would still be considered obese, many insurance companies feel that isn't enough weight loss to justify the money. Not that I agree....just what I have heard.
Changing2012 7 Posted March 23, 2012 I use to work with this lady who's bmi was well over 50+ & they approved her lapband & this is the same insurance company. She lost a whole person + & looks absolutely gorgeous.... Sent from my SCH-I400 using LapBandTalk
