Well today is the fourth day of my pre op diet, I am so tired of chicken broth but I know it is well worth it. (I have two weeks of complete liquids no solids and Protein shakes) I have surgery on April 3rd any encouraging words from anyone right now would be great to keep my momentum up through this diet.

I feel your pain!! On day 9.. surgery is Wednesday.. Lol I'm sorry but in my opinion it doesn't get better! Lol the only thing that makes me feel better is stepping on the scale.. and its all worth it <3 Try Carnation Breakfast Essentials the No Sugar Added one mixed with 1 cup ff milk.. Its really good & has 13Protein in it... I usually mix a half a scoop of Protein Powder with a half packet of the vanilla nsa carnation and 1 cup of milk.. it beats plain Protein Shakes. Goooood Luck=) !!

Yeah, the pre-op diet definitely sucks. Day 12 here. I just discovered Torani SF syrups.... Not really a fan of sugar free things, as I believe that artificial sweeteners aren't a good idea, but my nutritionist said I need to limit sugar pre-op. So.

Torani makes a ton of different flavors of the SF Syrup. I got salted carmel, chocolate chip cookie dough, coconut, red raspberry, and vanilla bean.

As far as Protein powder goes, I have orange, vanilla, chocolate, and chicken Soup. So there are quite a few variations of yumminess I can make. The salted carmel syrup in the chocolate Protein Powder tastes like a candy bar. But I definitely get sick of sweet stuff, so the chicken soup powder is a good way to mix it up a little bit.

Good luck!! Just keep the finish line in mind and you'll get through it.

After hearing of so many here that have to do more than 1 week of this pre-op diet, I shouldn't complain about my mere 7 days. As others have pointed out, it sucks and I'm running low on energy. I am on day 3-4 of the diet. I am working tonight and I'm dragging more than usual. My surgery is on Wednesday morning and I am so very excited. Honestly, I'm ready for the surgery because I know at least then I won't feel like eating at all anyway.

The Carnation Instant Breakfast sugar free Essentials with either FF or 1% milk is a life saver for me. It tastes fairly good (although I'm very sensitive to the taste of artificial sweeteners and I can taste it with that). Excellent source of the Protein for right now. However, I don't know that it will meet the carbs/proteins = 1/2 guideline the Weight loss institute recommends.

Hang in there. April 3rd is just right around the corner. Are you having yours inpatient or ? I am fortunate enough to have it outpatient.

Cheers,

Jason,

I too am a night shift RN working tonight. Just completed day 2. It's rough. I can't believe I've lasted this long. Way too many goodies running around our unit right now.

You can do it. Last night I had a meltdown and went off on everyone in the house. My eight year old was so mad and said he wanted his old mom back. Trust me it is hard but push through it.

Hi Everyone...

I am having my surgery on 4/9 - I feel so excited - even though it is my last weekend with food.

I am a ton of faith in my doctor, he is the head of bariatric surgery at the hospital where I am having my procedure.

My pre op diet seems to be different then most. I will be on Optifast shakes and bars for 12 days, then two days of clear liquid.

A little nervous but I can loose between 10 and 20 pounds before the surgical date.

Is anyone else on a pre op diet like this?

Mine is just five Optifast shakes a day. Day #3 for me. It's getting easier.

Thanks for the support. My skinny hubby bought more butter today. My goal tomorrow is to clean out the fridge and pantry. I will be doing 4 shakes and two bars for 12 days. Hope the pounds come off. It will be a good motivation.

So glad I joined. It really helps to hear what others are going through and how they are

Thank You everyone! I am on day 6 and it is a little easier because now it's like second nature to just wake up and do the same thing everyday. I am allowed suger free Jello, sugar free pudding but only in the box so I have to make it with skim milk and a scoop of Protein powder in it. It was good for like the first day and after that I just didn't want it. I like the Protein Shakes with milk though because they are really nasty with Water. I have chicken broth and I drink a lot of crystal light to stay hydrated and it is sugar free, carb free and low calories. Good luck to everyone and please post when you have your surgery!

Its did not get easier for me until after surgery. Although on the same liquids, you will not be hungry. By then you will be more bored of the same liquids. For those interested in Protein Shakes slim fast comes recommended by my doc. They have one that has 20g of Protein and 4g total carb/2g net carb, 180 cal comes in chocolate and vanilla its around $6.00 for 4 but good. chill and serve. Good luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
