Accidentally Ripped Off Steri Strip

Recommended Posts

I was trying to adjust my pajama pants and I accidentally ripped off my steri strip, scab and all, it had a little bleeding, I tried to wet it and stick it back on but it fell off. So I put some peroxide on the spot and stuck a band aid on it. Think I'll be ok?

how long ago was your surgery? I would think it would be fine. Same thing happened to me, but I was about a week or more out. I will say that I have a thicker scar where that happened. I would keep bacitracin or antibiotic ointment on it to minimize scarring & infection. If it scabs up too much, the scar will be lumpier.............maybe you should call your Doc

I agree with Bandayed. I still had mine on at two weeks and my doc pulled them off. Unless you are seeing signs of trouble I would say its fine. But a call to the Dr is always a good thing - better safe than sorry eh?

I have recently been under the care of a wound specialist. She told me that antibtiotic ointments such as Neosporin aren't the best things to use on wounds. The action of the ointment only lasts a short time, then it just becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. She said that Bacitracin is the stuff to use. Just an FYI for y'all.

It should be fine. I've never heard that about TAO (triple antibiotic ointment). Hmmmm...... I will say that the steri strips came off a lot earlier on one of my incisions & I used peroxide & TAO. When looking at my scars, I actually have less of a scar there. You can barely see it.

I personally wouldn't place anything on it. Just a bandaid & try & pull the skin as close together w/comfort as possible. I lost one the day after surgery & that particular incision doesn't look as good as the others do. Its not as small or flat. Maybe try & go see your doc if possible. But with that said there is no real worries but cosmetic I would think.

One of mine came off right away too, and I put a bandaid on it. I did ask my doc about it as they had said to leave them on. He said not to worry about it, that there were stitches underneath holding the incision together anyway. (I was jokingly asking him if any guts were going to come shooting out)

That said, I did see steri-strips a month later at the drugstore when I went in to buy scargel. If I had known they sold those at the drugstore I would have gotten a small package and replaced the one that had fallen off.

A butterfly bandage would work well in the place of a sterri strip.

Try to stay away from the neosporine type ointments, many people are allergic to them, or they soon develope one. Bacitracin is much better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
