I was banded on January 30th. I have lost close to 40 lbs and was feeling great ... Until Monday. I started feeling very bloated and hadn't had a bm since last Saturday. Monday night I got the chills and muscle aches and thought I caught the flu. Long story short, the pains increased and I was sweating profusely. I called my surgeon and met with him this morning. He ordered an emergency cat scan and they found air bubbles in my chest cavity. Do not pass go, do not collect 200.00. Go directly to hospital room. Here I am in my hospital bed awaiting surgery for tomorrow morning where according to my surgeon the band will most likely be removed. Needless to say, I am bummed. I will post follow ups tomorrow.

That sucks! So what will happen next? Do they put it back in later or do you have to look into another WLS?

Yes, how did this happen and can they redo it with a new lapband?? Hang in there, I know you must be discouraged!

What is the connection between the airbubbles and the lapband?

Yes it is a bummer. According to the surgeon, the body cavity is a sealed unit and no air should be there unless some organ is leaking. The air was near my stomach so first thought was it must be the band or the port. They will go in with a camera and see what they find. If it is the band it will be removed and the docs assistant said she doubts they would ever use another band. If that is the case, I don't know what I will do at this time.

I'm so sorry hun....good luck with the surgery. There is good news though...you've done great and lost what over 70 pounds? That is amazing and I think you will be able to loose the rest on your own if they take the band out. Best of luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
