After months of preop clearances ( sleep labs, Endoscopy, X-rays, psych analysis, and 6 weeks of Fat school that's what I called it anyway) I finally have a surgery date. Gonna do the deed on April 4th.

Right now I am in the 2nd day of preop diet. This is not fun. Don.t believe I have ever eaten this little food in fifty years. Had an egg substitute omelet this morning, a Protein shake for lunch and a small batch of veggies and some tuna fish for supper. This sucks. The cat just walked by and I am thinking of cat BBQ. Instead I guess I will go indulge in another diet Jello.

Surgery will look good after 14 days of this.

You can do it!!! Consider yourself lucky as I have heard of people on here who only got skim milk for two weeks, or all Protein Shakes and nothing else. Enjoy the chewing you are getting :) It could be worse! If you can get through the preop you can do everything after surgery. I looked at it as an endurance test! You can do it!!!

I was one of the unlucky ones that was aloud to have nothing besides Protein Shakes and I could barely get them down. I had my surgery on Tuesday and am having trouble getting enough Protein now. I can't stand the protein shakes if I had to drink one more I think I would vomit. I am looking for protein Water or whey Protein Powder I heard about through one of the forums. Just remember why you are doing this and the two weeks will go by faster then you realize. Hang in there its worth it.

It you restrict your carbs enough to induce ketosis, your appetite will likely be much decreased after 48 to 72 hours. That's the only way I survived. I did Atkins shakes three times a day. I added 1/2 serving of Protein Powder ( chocolate for chocolate, vanilla for vanilla) and I was in ketosis in about 48 hrs and the hunger was much less. My actual surgery took Less than five minutes he said. You can do this. Your surgery will go much quicker and recovery much easier if you persevere.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
