Thanks for the help! (I am 2 months post op, not loosing at all and not eating healthy because healthy hurts...unfortunatle "junk" goes down fine.

Ok today for Breakfast I had bircher meusli with chopped banana and kiwifruit on top - we put the meusli in the fridge the night before with organic apple juice poured over and in the morning mix in a spoonful of yogurt and add fruit. Yummy.

For lunch I just had a banana and an orange, I'll probably have a handful of macadamia nuts later this afternoon.

dinner tonight is going to be leftover zucchini slice - a sort of fritatta - and salad. I had a latte down at the shops before.

I'm not into Protein much, dont really believe in putting Protein before everything else, I'm more concerned with getting my fresh fruit and vegetables in. I think what amounts to a couple of eggs in the zucchini slice and some nuts, plus what's in the dairy I've had during the day is plenty. I know that's a fair bit different to what's generally advised in America but it works for me. I'm feeling healthy and well and losing well.

I am wondering how you get a 1/2 cup of bbq chicken and potatoes..do you just combine it all to one 1/2 cup?:couch2: ...i am so new to this. I was banded on Monday and am still on the mush phase but was just wondering? and people say they eat salads and things....is that all combined to 1/2 cup?

I dont measure with a cup. I just weigh everything. My Dr. has you do it that way. So I took all the meat off the chicken and weighed it with my potatoes. I guess you could smush it into a cup. Or maybe measure out 1/2 cup of chicken meat and then 1/2 cup of the potatoes. I know there is a lot to learn. It's like learning how to eat for the first time or something. I had a rough couple of weeks in the beginning because I was eating a little to fast and probably not chewing well enough. But my mom had this surgery in December and told me to slow down some and now I have had no problems for days. Those mushies sure do get boring though dont they. Keep in touch and let me know how your doing.

today: shake in the morning, 1 chicken tender and 1/2 cup mashed potatoes for lunch, 4-5 bites of hubbys nachos for dinner, and some ice cream - see, I could be losing faster if I wasn't eating CRAP! I'm proof that just because you don't eat much, you still need to eat healthy! I need to work on that!

I'm in the same boat as you. I end up eating off my boyfriends very unhealthy food or snacking on junk....don't always eat very much, but it seems like what I do eat is junk. I've got to change!

This is a typical day for me:

Breakfast - 16 oz. Protein shake

lunch - 2 slices of lunch meat and maybe some watermelon

dinner - 1/3 of a Stouffer's Lean Cuisine dinner

I remember eating like that! Amazing, isn't it, that this is a whole day's food?

A typical day for me now is as follows:

Breakfast: 6 ozs yogurt with all-fruit preserves, or a Protein Bar (Atkins)

Lunch: 4 ozs of cold cuts and cheese (i.e., the insides of a sandwich), or a can of Soup

Snack: large frozen yogurt

Dinner: a small serving of whatever is on order; if I'm eating out it'll be an appetizer only.

I was under the impression that all your food combined had to be 1/2 cup. Is that not right? Maybe I need to call my Dr...cause I have been eating 1/2 cup of food at each meal and thats it, no Snacks in between or anything. I haven't really felt that hungry, course I just got banded on Monday.

Stacey, if you just got banded on Monday you're still on liquids, right? It's way too early to be worrying about 1/2 cup servings. You're healing and this is not the time to be thinking about calories.

People's capacity changes over time, with healing and with adjustments. Sure, if you can keep to 4 ozs of food at each meal and that keeps you satisfied, that will be a very successful way to lose weight. I know that when I'm not well-restricted, a half-cup of food doesn't do it. For me, not getting too hungry is the most important thing--if I'm too hungry I'll eat too fast and get into trouble--so I have never worried overmuch about the exact amounts I'm taking in. My focus has been on eating slowly and mindfully, and stopping when I'm no longer hungry. Most of the time that means a very small amount of whatever--probably 3/4 of a cup or so, which will hold me until the next meal or more. And that makes me happy. :biggrin1:

Today (most likely)

Breakfast: Atkins Protein bar

Lunch: 1/3 baked fish, some veggies, some rice

Dinner: 1/2 cup lasagna (or so), some veggies

Snack: Fat free Jello pudding

Surgeons says: "Don't count calories, protein first." (I do anyway (estimage calories), as I feel it gives me a better gauge if I am getting the proper nutrition)

You'll find that you be able to eat different quantities at different times of the day, different stages, and different fill quantities.

Also, in my opinion, if the only thing that goes down well, is the liquids and junk, then evaluate your fill level and/or chewing/speed. Sometimes a slight unfill allows you to eat the proper foods without the chest pain. I know it did for me, as I was doing the same thing. Funny, how the junk slides on by...Shawn

Indeed, it is amazing. The cool thing is that I don't feel deprived or hungry. :couch2:

Today I had

large sugar free skim latte

1/2 of the insides of a omelet biscuit (so 1/2 of the egg mixture...I'm not sure it was real egg though, was pretty bad)

a chocolate chip cookie, a few hard pretzels at work along with a 1/2 slice of sunflower bread with nutella on it. (our kids are studying germany at the moment and today was food day  ) It's so easy to eat crap in a childcare enviroment!

3oz of cheese

2 slices of veggie bacon (not so great..need a different brand)

about 4 oz of stir fried tofu.

about 1/2 of a 4 oz cup of tilipia fish

I didn't figure up the calories or protien on this today...but I think I got close to the right amount of protien considering the tofu had about 10-15 grams of protien and the fish had protien and the cheese and bacon.

Oh and I only did 45 minutes of cardio because I went shopping with a friend instead of working out longer . :rolleyes

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
