Its so you do not dilute your food and are able to eat more then you should be. It was near impossible before the band. As soon as I was banded it is not normal to me. I just dont bring a drink with me when I eat dinner or I dont ask for one at a restaurant.

This is something I'm really worried about. I didn't notice how much I drink when eaating this until I was told after I'm banded I can't. I don't have a surgery date yet, hopefully in the next month or two, but I started following the drinking guidelines already to break my habit.

It's not as bad as it sounds. It is what I was most worried about! I always order a Water if I go out just for security for myself but not drinking with the meal hasn't been too hard. I do time right up to the thirty min after to drink tho and usually carry a drink with me wherever I go so I can have some as soon as the thirty min are up but a lot of that is so that I make sure I get in all the water I am supposed to drink every day. I promise u can do it!

What I would do is order a drink when arriving at a Resturaunt or drink fluids while I'm cooking dinner. That way im hydrated and not thirsty when eating. I then would deny refills after the food has arrived...

Here is another reason not to drink while eating. If you don't chew your food well and something gets stuck the first thing you will do is grab a drink. This will only make it worse because. I have not experienced this but this is what my doctor told me.

It was difficult at first but I just don't bring a drink to the table anymore.

My doctor says nothing to drink 30 mins prior to eating and 1 hour afterwards.....that's going to be a tough one, but I'm planning to do exactly as my doctor says.....I want that sweet smell of success! Good luck!

I physically CAN'T drink for at least an hour after eating - I'll throw up whatever I just ate. My doc says it's because it pushes the food down your pouch faster - not letting you feel full as long. But I also read in a lapband book that what I have is called the "cork effect". When the food is sitting in my pouch, drinking causes it to back up like a cork. It's quite painful. But I can drink up until the time I eat.

I have to wait an hour after as well. It didn't take long to get used to the waiting. I try to keep myself busy so the time seems to pass quickly. If I feel like my mouth is dry after eating, I'll chew a piece of sugar-free gum until I can have a drink.

The same thing happens to me. I can eat anything and everything, but if I take a drink of anything while eating...it comes right back up!

Up until my second to last fill I could drink while eating. Now, if I drink with food, it is likely to upset the balance and cause a stuck. I like the "cork effect" name, that is just perfect for what happens to me. Prior to that fill, it didn't make a difference at all. I'd not get hungry sooner. But if you cause yourself to get stuck a few times, you'll quit drinking with food, trust me!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
