Hi everyone,

I am 6 days post surgery and feel great. Just wanted to know if anyone out there is further down the track and have had the chance to actually taste their food? I am looking forward to enjoying taste instead of just eating the biggest meal I possiblly can to get "full". I am a massive emotional eater and am looking forward to being satisfied off a minimal amount of healthy food. I think I am the only Australian writing on this forum but I love hearing everyone's stories from abroad!

There are actually quite a few of us Aussies - myself, Jachut, Lellow post quite often and then there are others that don't post as often. Where in Aus are you and who is your Dr?

Yes you will get to the point where you eat for the taste and not the quantity but if you are an emotional eater you should start thinking of ways to deal with that as the band doesn't stop you eating when you are not hungry.

Congrats on being banded and good luck with your journey.

im an Aussie... in Tasmania, and been here for a few weeks now. i agree. Being able to ''savour'' the taste of each mouthful will more than make up for the quantity that we had before. Im an emotional eater as well. portions are my weakness, not sweets.

I am from Bendigo and had my op done by dr paul Dumbrell. I think it's a good advantage not to be a sweet tooth when trying to succeed with weight loss. I have lost significant amounts of weight in the past (55kg in 2003) but it always comes back! I am hoping this is my answer as I am only 30 years old with a 7 month old daughter! I woke up yesterday forth first time I can remember not in fear about my weight. Great to hear replies I am loving it

You are lucky if you don't have a sweet tooth. chocolate is way to easy to eat even with a band - I think it might be a guy vs girl thing - us girls seem to be way more into chocolate.< /p>

It is good that you have taken this positive step for your health, especially now you have a daughter, you want to be able to keep up with her once she starts toddling.

I'm just outside Ballarat.

Yeah, the trick is really to only eat when ur hungry. I am on a 5 day conference at work, my band isn't working 100% yet coz I have only had two fills. Every coffee break there are pastries, baby sandwiches, dates, and everything! if I only ate when I was actually hungry this week would have been ok. But every two hours they give you something to nibble on! And it's in a hotel in the middle of no where! So this goes to show that eating when ur not hungry will still be a challenge even while being banded.

Next week will be the week of lettuce for me to make up for this. I thought the band would eliminate those lettuce punishments but it's still there for now :)

I am not complaining though, 9 kg down 31 to go!!

you have done better in the past than i have with dieting, thats for sure. you are still only young, i think youve done the right thing. wow, if thats just about the first waking thought that you were/are having, its definately the right thing that you have done. when did you have your surgery??

I was very committed last time I lost the weight but I fell in a heap mentally as I put too much pressure on myself to lose the weight! This time around it's staying off for good and I'm confident by using the band as a tool this will happen! The liquids are going down well on day 5 post op ! Anyone else struggling with variety of liquids though?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
