Please Some Advice From Veterans

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody. I'm writing as a lap-band failure. I had surgery in July 2009, and was faithful to the program for a year--lost 55 lbs. But I never found a sweet spot, and got too tight in May 2010, loosened in June 2010 but perhaps not enough. Anyway, I found I couldn't get anything down and began--yes--with milkshakes and the like to compensate. I began gaining, had some family trouble, and long story short, I'm here in March 2012 having gained all the weight back. I am going to call my surgeon's office and get a new fill-tighten-loosen, but I'm looking for advice-counsel-experience from those who have gone through something like this and have managed to get back on the horse and get straight. Thank you so much for your time.

I have read suggestions in the past about starting again like it was day one, including the dietary guidelines. Good luck :)

I would say yes, go back to your doc and get a new fill. You know the eating guidelines, and you need to start following them again. Being too tight is miserable (I've been there a few times), so don't beat yourself up too much. You can't change the past, only move forward. Good luck!!

Join in the ride!!! I had my revision after being assaulted in feb 2009 and my band slipped horribly due to trauma....Since then mentally I have gone down hill so far and I ended up putting 34kg of what I had lost back on. I am not back to my original weight, so I am proud of that BUT in saying that I felt like I failed myself....but that guilt could just eat you away and it is not worth it!!! I see my last 3 years as I could of put on so much more and I would of been dead.....so I am glad I have lola that has helped me with that........I have had my band readjusted and fingers crossed I am now on my way!! good luck with your journey!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
