Wow, finally I can feel restriction. I have lost a bunch of weight and have followed the rules (more or less) and have great results but I did not feel any restriction. 2 weeks ago my Dr. did a fill using the Floroscope. He said I had virtually no restriction so he did a fill - I drank more of that great tasting white liquid and he said he had it too tight so he took some out. Fine, the next gulp went down like it should the next time. Well, I have completed a 5K and done tons of yard work since but it seems like at least once a day here comes the PBing. In fact, as I type this I just finished an episdoe that lasted almost 45 minutes. I don't think I am too tight and I do have 60 pounds more to loose (lost 88) but darn, this PB stuff is for the birds. I am work, so I go outside my office and hide behind the bushes with a roll of paper towels and a trash bag..This is no fun. Oh, what had I eaten..2 bites of tossed salad, 1/2 cooked baby carrot, a couple of bites of black eyed peas and 2-3 bites of filet (very tiny bites, well chewed). Fromt the looks of things, it is the salad that caused the problem (sorry TMI). I am not new to the band as I have been banded since 7/7/11 but now I am really seeing what goes on and the PB stuff is no fun. I don't want to call the doctor as he will take more out of the band so I guess it is liquid Protein for a few days till things calm down. Thanks for listening.

I can't do salad. I just recently got a really good fill myself so I've got training wheels on all over again. I've been PBing a lot too but it's totally a learning curve since I've had the band for over a year with no restriction.

I went to lunch with a dear friend and had a tiny bit of asian salad. I was running to the bathroom 2 minutes after having finished the 5 bites or so of it.

You're doing the right thing, give the band a rest for a couple days and check salad off of the 'can haves' list. Congrats on the great WL so far!! :)

There was a time where it seemed everything got stuck. Sometimes 2-3 times a day.

PB'ing is a indication food is not going through your band, and it is a buildup of saliva, in an attempt to regurgitate it up.

In my case, t was a time fr learning. Learning to eat properly, learning that certain foods simply no longer were compatible, etc, etc.

Once I got that down, not only was I in the Green Zone, but I found my "Groove" whet everything began to fall in place and become easy.

I, also, can't do salad. I have recently been able to eat salad, if I am selective on what knd of lettuce I have on it. Raw vegetables are very hard to chew up to a consistenacy that will not cause a pb. I can't eat steak! I will pb everytime, even if I chew very well. If you want steak, try chopped steak. My son has 7 cc in his 10 cc band, and he has now gotten real restriction for the 1st time. He has lost 88 lbs, and has about another 20 to loose. He can eat a yogurt and be satisfied, now. You might need to eat less than before. Good luck, Karen

I've had my band since December and had no restriction at all, until today !!!! Was really strange feeling I took I bite out of my lunch and was instantly sick, nothing came up but had this awful pain and every time I had a drink of Water it came back up. Ten min later I felt something shift and the pain has gone, but feeling really sore and afraid to eat again, I'm due another fill tomorrow and don't know if I should go ahead ???

Hello,

Had a serious fill yesterday, and am struggling with getting anything down thats not liquid. I tried to eat some mashed banana but started foaming at the mouth, not a great experience.

What does PBing mean? I had surgery in December, and have had 3 fills since. Have lost 30 lbs to date, another 20 to go, but its slow... Im quite certain that this fill has been the biggest to date, as I certainly hadn't felt this type of restriction before.

Any suggestions for managing my inability to get anything down? I can go on liquids, but was wondering if anyone has any insight? Will this loosen up at all in time?

Please advise, and thanks in advance.

Hi AMC. I would stick to liquids for a couple days, your band might be swollen. As long as you can get liquid down, I wouldn't be too concerned right out the gate. If this continues after several days, I think your fill might have been a bit too much.

PBing (from my understanding) is a polite way of saying you've puked up the food in your pouch/esophagus. It's called a productive burp, like when you've ate just a tad too much and all you have to do is cough or burp and it comes right back up again. Not something you want to get into the habit of.

My last fill (14 months into being banded mind you) was a tight one too, I had to do liquids for about 5 days because I tried scrambled eggs the next day after the fill and I PB'd. Thus irritating an already touchy band from the fill.

Like I said, if you can keep liquids down, you might be okay...just a bit swollen. Don't wait longer than a few days though. Hope that helps. :)

You had food stuck in your band. If this was the first time you have experienced this in 3 months, congrats! when the pain went away, that meant that it cleared your band. When this happens, it can cause inflammation and you probably shouldn't eat for awhile. Tell you doc what happened and ask them if you should have another fill.

My doctor says PB is because you are too tight.

The the person who had a fill yesterday my doctor says to have full liquids for 24 hours and ten mushies for the next 24.

I am so glad I found this thread. I had my fourth fill last Thursday and I have never had this much restriction before. I can get down liguids and shakes no problem. But I am having a hard time with other things, even some mushies, just had yogurt and it took a while to get it all down.

Maybe I just need to get used to feeling what restriction is like. Is this normal ? I haven't PB'D,

Although I have had a couple of incidents where it has hurt going down.

I was starting to get concerned, but maybe I'll give it another couple of days before I worry about it.

Thanks, Terri

Teri, so glad to hear that you and others have had the same problem with PBing once you finally get that restriction feeling. It has been about 12 days since my fill and I have PBed 1-2 meals a day since that time..some quite hard to get over. But...last night no problems - meatloaf and grilled zucchini (yummy too) but NO salad. I don't know if it was salad causing my issues but I am going lay off of it for a bit and try later on (I love salads). Hang in there. I feel much better today (I have my leftover for lunch too !!!)

I recently had my band let out (4cc) for the first time in 2 years. I was having issues keeping food down for 3 weeks and it turned into not being able to handle liquids without getting sick. My band was let out for 4 weeks and I gained significant weight (almost 20 pounds). Most of it was due to Water weight as I gained 5 the first day I was able to drink Water. This past week I went back in for a fill. The surgeon filled the band (3.75cc) and I was able to take the water down with little restriction and he let it out to (3.7cc). I left the office and an hour later had to pull over the car to get sick. I haven't kept anything down since and all I've tried is water, apple juice, and mylanta.

I vaguely remember being filled 2 years ago for the first time and being sick like this for about 3 days.

Is this common? Does anyone else have this type of trouble when they are filled? Any suggestions? I would really like to be able to drink water at least without getting sick. Can't go to the surgeon for at least 4 days as he is not available, need assistance until then.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
