Guest eva Posted July 29, 2003 HI! guys I am not yet banded but, hope to be soon. Maybe the fall. But, this is a true story about a girl that was not use to putting on weight than one day slowly but surely found herself unable to fit into the Misses size 18 any longer. Off to the plus size as it is called (so I heard) and there were size 14W, 16W. 18W, ect. You guys know what I'm talking about. Well, after several attempts and trying on different things needed one in the size up. Go up to the girl and ask her, "Do you have this in an 18 Wide" The girl looked at me and said, Honey this ain't no trailer lot........ I said, what do u mean. She said, this means "WOMENS" not "WIDE". OH! I said, well, I did think they were like trailer houses. You know.... 14 Wides, 16 Wides, even have some 18 Wides, too. Better yet they have them in Double Wide, and Triple so I hear. Please don't be offended anyone just some of my own humor here. Love this site and all your great stories! lmtorb 3 Posted July 29, 2003 Another note on women's clothes from my wife: She claims that whenever a clothing manufacturer sees UGLY fabric they say "Hey! Let's make FAT clothes with that!" This is my WIFE speaking, so please don't anyone be offended....She is trying to lose weight with me. Just wondered if any other women who are buying the "W" clothes noticed that there are some, er, interesting patterns out there that do NOT seem to compliment ANYONE'S figure whether they're a size 4 or 24!!! Here's to vertical stripes for everyone!!!!!!! :laugh
momhappe1 0 Posted July 30, 2003 I totally agree with both of you. I wear all black... Most things with color are not to attractive. Not to mention that the "New Style" is sleevless. Now, I do not know about you, but the last thing that I want to wear is something with my arms hanging out. All I can say is thank God for Black and suit jackets.. wednesday 0 Posted July 30, 2003 LOL! I thought the "W" was for "Wide" also! Uh oh, my true upbringing is coming through on this one! To funny!
nickyjs 3 Posted July 30, 2003 Wednesday you're not the only one that thought that. I did too. It would make sense too with my big but! LOL:D I don't know what clothes are like in the states but I really hate the plus size clothes in Australia they cost an absolute fortune and are really crappy quality. The materials are just pathetic and are not worth the money. They just don't last. Oh the joys. Oh well just have to keep thinking that I'll be able to buy in the 'normal' section in about a year!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!
meswede 1 Posted July 30, 2003 Oh yeah ... it's not only the poor choices of fabric and the shotty quality and the outrageous prices ... but some of the styles really STINK! I was in one of those stores before heading to Mexico for surgery and they actually had belly shirts ... something like a corset look in a size 26? GET REAL! When was the last time you saw a size 26 woman look good in a belly shirt? Then I happened to see a lady in town wearing one of those shirts ... and she turned heads alright because people were snickering at her. It was awful and I felt bad for her. The other gripe for me is not only the sleeveless shirts ... but I can't even count the number of shirts I've bought and they've just made required length (for big tummys) and sure enough ... you wash it once and it's up to your belly button!!! A total waste of money! I just started REFUSING to spend anymore money on clothes and things were looking rather ratty and my selection was few. And now that I'm banded ... and losing weight ... guess what's on my agenda when I get to my goal weight??? SHOPPING!!! Yes!!!!!!! Oh I can so relate to this one! Actually I'm wearing one of those at the moment. It is so short that it has now become a pj top! So annoying!!!! Alexandra 55 Posted July 31, 2003 I so hear you about the short lengths! Add being 5'10" to the mix and you really have a problem. I don't think I've worn anything not called a "tunic" in ten years.
glenda6 1 Posted August 5, 2003 Nicky, I am in Sydney and have found Target brand to be really good quality and fashionable (even though I am 42 - I still like to be dressed well), but lucky for us we won't have to give a SH*T shortly about plus size clothes anyhow. nicolekiper 0 Posted August 7, 2003 You know those people who make "PLUS SIZE" clothes must be about 4feet tall and 90 lbs cuz let me tell you I have a lot and when I say that I mean ALOT of pj tops. Can't get over how much money i spend on clothes that i only wear once and then give away or use as pjs. I think we should all band together and make are own lothing line. then al least it would be attractive. Nicole
Lioness81970 0 Posted August 22, 2003 Oh you guys!! I can TOTALLY relate to all these stories!! Just once I would like to go into a store and be able to pick something out for me that is going to be of good quality, good price AND looks good on me. I hate shopping for clothes because it is always such a hassle. When I was younger I loved shopping for clothes but now that I am older and the weight has been added, that is one of my all time least favorite thing to do - right on up there with getting teeth pulled!!! ) Thanks to all of you for putting a smile on my face cause I was rolling when I read these posts!!! bunkie68 6 Posted September 3, 2003 Oh, I'm just laughing my head off at this thread! It blows my mind how difficult it is to find attractive plus-size clothing that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Seems like everything is either way too trendy (read: something I wouldn't be caught dead in no matter *what* size I was) or looks like it was made out of someone's curtains circa 1972. :ermm And the cost is ridiculous!!! I'm short, too - loads of fun trying to find something for the woman who's plus-size yet "petite". I am SO looking forward to getting this weight off and actually being able to find clothes on SALE!!!! Oh, and I've already cut up my Lane Bryant card in anticipation of never using it again. Not like I ever find anything there I want to wear anyway. I'll never forget - a couple of Christmases ago, DH and I were in the mall and stopped by Lane Bryant just to see if I could find anything. Prominently displayed on the mannequin at the front of the store was a paisley halter top - back and arms completely bare - paired with some black bell bottom pants made out of some stretchy material and trimmed with rhinestones all the way down the outside of the legs! YIKES!!!! Now do they honestly think that the majority of plus-size women out there WANT halter tops and bell bottoms?! Countin' the days until I can shop in a section of the store not called "plus size" or "woman's world"!
bunkie68 6 Posted September 3, 2003 BTW, Eva, I know where Colfax is! I live in Texas now, but I'm originally from Bunkie - small world!!!
