I Really Have A Band!

Recommended Posts

Hi all i haven't posted much here because i was feeling like band failure. I only had my op on Feb 4th and had 4cc put in my 10cc band during the op.

I lost 15lbs including my seven day milk diet but regained 2 back in the last few weeks, i was able to eat anything really but tried to be careful.

I had my first fill of 1cc on Friday so am now on soft foods but all day I've been sipping cold Water all day and can actually feel it passing through my band. Im so happy, i actually know i have a band now ha and haven't really been hungry since. Small amounts fill me up for a long while.

I just wanted to say Yippie and hello to you all!

I'm glad to hear there's hope. Sometimes I feel like I've just got a port with nothing attached. I'm at 4.2 cc with my next fill in April. The only time I feel anything at all is when I eat too fast. Other than that, so far I'm doing this all on my own! I'm ready for that helpful "tool" to start helping!

Thanks all!

I started this journey with positivity running through my veins and took in all the warnings that it takes time and is only a tool etc and gave myself two years to lose the weight even though lots of people have done it in less than one.

Even with all that and the knowledge that it takes time, i really got disheartened. I then stopped being so careful, exercise got left "for tomorrow" and i began remembering all the band failed me stories i had read.

Im back to my old self now, Im aware that it's only a tool and i need to work it and make good decisions and ignore head hunger.

Im just so so glad i can feel it there :)

Congratulations! So that's 5cc total?

F YI it may not last, or be permanent I should say. Most people's come and go at this point but it is enough to let you know what better things there are to come.

As a side note, there are actually people, who have been banded, that is against feeling any restriction at all! Go Figure!

And to make things more insane, they belong to a support group where people are trying to be successful!

Like they don't want to feel restriction??

I'll take theirs!

Ah i know it won't last and will need another fill-when would that usually be roughly?-

Yeah it's 5cc in total, was getting really scared that i had 4 in and felt nothing!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
