What If....

What if I get this surgery and nothing changes? I am using our savings to get this done and we are sacrificing financially for it. I just read a post on the main board about a lady that has had the lap band for about a year and has only lost 15 pounds. That is my true fear....what if that turns out to be me. I was originally interested in the Gastric Sleeve...but due to the cost I have decided on the Lap band...but now I am wondering if I have made the right decision. Anyone else with these issues?

dhales, i think that is the feer all of us have. we have started and failed at so many weight loss diets that we have been conditiones to failing. This is differant its the one tool that we have been laking in all the other atemps. If we go at this with a positive attatude with our eyes open knowing that it is still going to take work on our part. Working with our Dr, and our support people WE WILL WIN.

Momab - thank you...I just had that breakdown this morning. So worried about it. Today is my first day of my pre-op diet.

I have the same concern. Seems like a lot of money for no guarantees. HOWEVER.... if I add up how much money I've spent on gym memberships, fade diets, special foods and so on, the lap band will probably end up saving me money. We will have to "use" the band as a tool and not depend on it to do all the work.

We're almost there!

Scorpiolady...if I add up all of the diets and gimmicks that I have tried...I could have afforded a whole new body transplant! lol

Did you try being hypnotized? That was a good one.

Day one of pre-op diet. Did my Protein Shake and already wanted to turn to food as a way to relieve stress :( This could be a long two weeks. My day off and I'm thinking this would be a good day to tackle the garden full of weeds.

Although my insurance has approved my surgery, I have these very same thoughts every single day, with one exception; I was originally interested in gastric bypass. I try to mentally work through these negative thoughts each time they enter my head, and fortunately, as my surgery nears, the thoughts are much easier to push aside because I know definitively this is what I want to do.

I may not be successful with the band, but I am going to work my hardest to follow the rules. If I am not successful, it will not be the first time I have failed, and I will evaluate what went wrong and move on to Plan B. However, there are many individuals who have been successful with the band, and I am hopeful that I will be able to join their group, too. My surgeon says that band will work for me, and I trust he has the experience to make the best decision with the facts I have provided.

Research shows the odds are in our favor. I'm confident we can do this, but I think it's only natural that we have doubts because of our past histories.

That's one of the few I haven't tried.

I have been struggling all day with wanting to eat more than I should. Reading the posts here on LBT does help me get through the toughest times, though. I hope it's been a good day for you!

What is y'alls pre-op diets? Mine was just high protein/low carb. I could still eat how much I wanted. Just couldnt eat what I REALLY wanted.. I'm a carbivore!! It was tough.. especially when I would go out to eat and realize I couldn't eat 75% of the menu! ahh. But it paid off and I wouldn't change a thing! I wish you all the best!!

Swadley - I am a high protein/low carb as well. The recommend two shakes and high Protein lunch and dinner. This morning instead of a shake I had a Protein Bar. It is an Atkins Meal Replacement with 180 calories and 15g protein. It tastes so good...I feel like I am cheating! However 48 hours before surgery it is just liquids.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
