Does 370 Per Fill Seem Expensive?

Recommended Posts

I pay $75 for an office visit with no fill and $150 total if I get a fill. Lucky you don't pay anything if you just have an office visit. Going in to be accountable to their scale has it's benefits. I think I will continue monthly visits for a long time, I don't want to go back to where I started from!

My insurance paid for the first year, but then it's only $125 after that which I thought was high. Some of these seem like highway robbery!

I go for my first fill on Tuesday...I have insurance so there is only a specialist copay of $45.00. However, I think I read on this site that back in 2007 my doc charged $500/fill for self-pay. Hope it isn't that much any more, because I might retire next year and would not have such good insurance after that...would have to wait another 4 years for Medicare.

It is just really blowing me the amount the fills cost...how can it be so vastly different and its the same procedure..unless its done blind versus fluro I don't know how they can justify the difference...I believe these doc's are taking total advantage cuz they know that without the fills for most patients the band would be non functional with no restriction..ugh this just pisses me off..taking advantage of people!

I really feel like I am getting ripped off.. My surgery was $22,000 and I have to pay $1000 for each fill.. Wow....

Holy Hell..... that is insane.....there is no reason anyone should charge that much. I would check with another fill dr. in your area. And check with the dr, maybe he's telling you what he charges insurance. No one could afford that for each fill. Do some research and find out what other dr's in the area are charging and go in with guns blazing.... Thats what i did, i call every fill dr in a 200 mile radius and ask what their new patient fee is and self pay fills.

It was $235....... But i beat him down to $150... with the information i presented him with. And i told him that with the economy, people are losing there insurance and can't afford going for a fill or check up. He eventually saw that i was right and lowered his prices..... yah for me.

When something is important to me, i am relentless.....just ask my husband...lol

Yes.. $1000 is what he bills my insurance.. Since he is put of network my insurance only pays $525.. He accepts that a full payment, so I only pay the my $25 Co-pay...

I am paying out of pocket and will be coverednfornany fills in the first 90 days. After that it is $200 a fill and within 14 days of that fill if I'm not satisfied I can go back for more or less at no charge.

I thought you were paying $1000 out of pocket. Still that is entirely too much for him to charge insurance...... And people wonder why insurance is so expensive.....This is why, Doctors over charging.

while we are on the subject..... it infuriates me to know that Medicaid and Medicare are paying for this and paying for some people to have Plastic surgery after...... I had to pay my own crap... now i have to pay for other peoples too.... so not fair.... And i really don't care if i pi$$ any body off.

I agree with you 1000%...I work in the medical field but yet my insurance excluded all weight loss surgeries so I was self pay..really ticks me off that I end up paying for mine and others with my freakn taxes. Oohhhh don't get me started..lol

I couldn't agree more with that statement! I mean seriously! I am 19 and still on my parents insurance. I got approved for the surgery no problem but I think it's ridiculous that someone with a freakin medical card who doesn't pay for their insurance can get approved.

The insurance i have now won't pay either.... so i have to pay everything out of pocket..... What really burns me up is that people actually come on her and ask...... "will medicaid/medicare pay for my Tummy Tuck"? I had to pay $8800 for mine... that i had to get a credit card to pay for... Well no one made me have the TT... but still...... This really chaps my hide... Why should i have to pay for yours too.... just because you don't have a job and won't get off you Butt to get a job and get some damn insurance.

I think anyone that pays for insurance and fits the required LB surg. criteria should be able to have it...... It's either pay for LB to get healthy or pay forever for High blood pressure or diabetes meds.... etc... Just Crazy.

That is expensive!!! My fills were free for the first year and thn $100 per fill after that. Office visits are always free at my doctor. After the first year you don't need fills that often anyway.

My fills are covered by insurance, but I have a $500 annual deductible. I got my surgery in October and the first few fills (Nov and Dec), I paid $23 because with the surgery, I had reached my deductible easily and then I paid 10% of whatever else I had done. Then, when insurance reset in January, my first fill cost me $229!! My insurance statement shows they billed them over $300 and after the discount for being a network provider, it brought it down to $229, but I have to pay it all towards by $500 deductible. The good thing is, 2 visits this year will satisfy my deductible for the whole year, but it's still a lot to pay out at once.

I can't believe some of the prices people are paying for fills. All my fills have been blind (no xray) and they take about 10 minutes tops. That includes her talking to me and going over my eating plan and exercising.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
