I hate to be gloom and doom but I really think tha I have given up onmyself and this surgery. I had it done november of 2010 and I did lose about 40 pounds. I had a major life crisis hit and my ife has not been the same since and since that point about 1 year ago my weight loss has ended and the ain started I am up now half of what I lost and I am so mad at myself. I feel like I went though this whole process to just fail at this also. I feel like this was just another failed weight loss attempt. I am in a rocky marriage, i have two kids work about 50 hours a week and can not find the time to take care of myself, and when i do have the the time i dont have the energy or the desire. I think that i have a decent amount of Fluid in my band to the point where i can get stuck on certain things but yet other things, maily junk goes down so easy! I am afraid i stetched my pouch at times, i at times also wished i never got this thing now its one more thing for me to worry about going wrong inmy body! I need to get on track, i need a buddy, i need some advice to pick myself up somehow and move on in the right direction.....not sure if there is hope for me though..maybe i am destined to be like this....

I too had surgery, in April of 2009. I was able to lose 80 pounds but then became complacent. I was vomiting and "sliming" as they call it. I wasn't being honest with myself. I was eating all the wrong foods and not able to lose anymore weight. I instead started gaining. I was unhappy with my choices but somehow couldn't stop making them. I always found an excuse. I went to my surgeon and had fluid removed. My band was so irritated that it wasn't allowing anything but liquid or bad foods to go through. I felt I had stretch my stomach as well. I will admit, I enjoyed no restrictions... The ability to eat a whole plate of food or a hamburger with no vomiting was heaven. But, the weight gain was not. I had to do some soul searching and find what was really important to me. I self sabotage and eat for my anxiety. Any reason, good or bad, was a reason to eat. Thus, i was/am very unhappy with my life. I am coming to terms with that and I try to be mindful of everything I put in my mouth now. I finally went back to the doctor. I got half of the fluid that was pulled out and started with some restriction again. I decided I needed an outlet that would give me some "me" time other then food. I have hated exercise in the past, but found that by joining a gym, I was a able to provide "me" time again in a constructive manner. I am a caregiver and so it is natural for me to make sure everyone else is happy and deny myself of any pleasure.

The moral of the story is our mental health is important and we must take pride in ourself and make ourself a priority. You are not a failure and can achieve your goal when you make yourself the priority. Husband, work, kids are not getting 100% of you when you are only giving 50% or less to yourself. Be true to you and what you want and all the other stuff will fall into place. People will respect you for making you a priority and you will feel better about it all. This all sounds easier then it really is but baby steps do make a difference.... I promise. Just by making myself a priority, as I have a needy husband, work 40+ hours a week, a student and a two year old in my home, all has worked out even with making myself a priority. I make sure I go to the gym for "me" time 4 days a week. I have been able to lose almost 15 pounds in 2 weeks. I will be your buddy if you need. However, I feel you need to make the decision to put yourself first. do wish you luck. You can succeed, and you have support here!

To the previous 2 posters......it is unfortunate that you and the band could not work together.

One must be willing to change, and willing to give up some foods, never to eat them again if they want to succeed.

It always come down to the individual.....and how committed do you want to be.

Every-time I read about how the band has failed someone, in 98% of the time there is always more to it than just the band itself.

I say this not to judge you, but for all the newbies here just starting out.

I agree with you... When I became complacent, my band did not work for me. It is easy to make excuses and the wrong choices. That is when I did some soul searching and found that I need to make me a priority. I am in the process of being successful again by doing that. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
