I was banded on 2/22, and just had my post-op follow-up this past Thursday. As a result of this appointment, I've been moved to the mushies stage - woo hoo! I've done really well with my lose so far - 42lbs since starting my pre-op diet - and now my fear is gaining with the introduction of foods. I've been walking a lot, and now my doctor has given me the ok to get into more exercises, my question is, what types of exercises are you guys doing outside of walking? I haven't set foot in a gym or done any real exercise in years, so I'm kinda at a lose on where to start!

Thanks!

A workout plan that includes aerobic exercise and weight training would be ideal. Aerobic to burn fat and weight training to bulid strength and tone while you lose.

If you can afford it, join a gym. Most places will let you meet with a trainer once for free.

Or, go to Target, KMart, Sports Authority and buy some kettlebells. Google "kettlebell workouts" and get started. What an awesome core workout you can do in your own home.

OR, go to DrOz website and search for the Insanity Workout clip. It's a 15 min Insanity workout he had on his show and he posted it for everyone. The instructor is there walking you thru it. Wow! I did it one day and it was a killer! Then, I grabbed my kettlebell and went outside and did a KB workout.

There are so many things you can do! Just get started! Toning your muscles as you lose is so important! Oh, and try to do a plank everyday and build up your time. Begin trying to hold your plank for 15 seconds and add 5 seconds everyday. Google "plank exercise". Great for the core!! And you can do in your home.

Hello,

Your doing great at 42 lbs great job! Didn't your doctor put you on an exercise program from your initial consult? I got an exercise program and diet consult, but my surgery date is 6 months away. Well, you can find workout plans if you google the areas you want to target. I just started an exercise program which I have not done any type of exercise in 10 years too! Start off slow with just 15 min 5 days a week and then increase up your time. I do 15 min of the treadmill and then 15 min of weights and then 15 min on the treadmill. Good luck and keep it up!

I started with the elliptical. It is low impact on the joints and you can set the resistance.

I started slow and only 20 minutes.

I am now still using the elliptical but with Avery high resistance and one hour. I also use a cardiac workout program that gets me to a steady level 3 with spurts of level 4.

I have backed off weights, only because I felt I was bulking up and not sliming down.

Whatever you do, IMO is calories burned versus calories consumed.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS ! YOU"RE AWESOME !! As far as exercise, other than walking i hadnt done real exercise in a long time, so i started a Water fitness class at our local ymca. what a workout ! very easy on the joints and lungs, and since i hate to feel like im sweaty and uncomfortable, the water keeps me cooled off even when i sweating like crazy ! your weight loss is more than ive done in 3 months of being banded, but i dont care ! im so happy that ive lost 25 lbs and my pants keep getting loose, again ! find an exercise you can stick with, and you'll do fine. good luck !

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
