What No Hoosiers.

Recommended Posts

The last post made here was in July of 2011, with Indiana being consistently in the top 15 states with high obesity, I am sure there have to be a few Hoosier bandters out there.

I'm here. Banded December 2009 and not doing so great! Where are you guys working that your insurance covers fills & visits, or do you know of any doctors with reasonable self-pay rates? My insurance doesn't cover it and I haven't seen a band doctor in over a year!

I'm here too, but I'm not banded yet. I had my last pre-surgery appointment yesterday. now just waiting on a date. I am going to St. Vincent's in Carmel. I would recommend the lap band support group, it meets the first Wed of each month. I went last month and it was great. It's open to anyone that's had lap band surgery or are thinking about it.

Dizzy Lizzy, not sure how much they cost since I'm going through my insurance. I hope you find someone soon.

Colleen, my date is June 21st @ IU North. Let me know when your date is! Love to have you as a support person :)

Dizzy, I have know idea what the cost is for fills. Haven't had to cross that bridge yet. Call a few places and see what they say.

Dizzy-Dr. McEwen in Noblesville is AMAZING! His self-pay fills will run you $150. I've been banded for two years and have had zero issues because of him!

Tarajill- Did you have any complications? I have heard terrible things about Dr. Ray. At the time of my surgery, I lived in Bloomington and chose to drive to Noblesville because of the bad reviews I heard.

Lauren - I have no complaints with him. No complications with my surgery either. Their education program lacks but this is the only thing I would criticize so far.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
