It seems like some doctors like to keep people overnight, and others would rather have them out the door as soon as they are awake.

I would think it depends more on the patient, no? My surgeon said that because I don't have sleep apnea or any other co-morbidities and am generally very healthy other than the weight, that I would be outpatient... But it sounded like he did a lot of inpatient surgeries as well..

I have a question for everyone that has been banded. How long did the soreness last? I mean how many days after surgery was it before the soreness was completely gone?

mom of 3 :)

I am 16 days post-op and while I am not in terrible pain, there is still a tiny bit. It truly does get better as the days go by. I can say, I'm off of the pain meds (at least 5 days since I've needed it), I'm able to be out and about without feeling icky and I am starting back with my P90X on Monday. I think we all heal differently, so you might not take as long to be pain free or you might take longer. One thing for sure (and I learned this the hard way) get your Protein in...that really helps the healing process move along!

Good Luck!

I'm 8 days out, and I'm feeling pretty good today. I have a dinner party to attend tonight, so I'm looking forward to getting out. I'm not totally sure what I am going to eat though, but I'll figure something out.

I am feeling much better today. I have managed to keep everything down. The only pain I am having is when I get up from sitting or laying, and then again when I try to lie down or roll over. The gas is going away. I am very groggy from the pain meds. I am hoping to take a shower later today when my husband gets home. I want to take it now, but dont want to since I am home alone.

Yesterday I walked 2 blocks before it got dark out, and I think that helped with the gas.

K...I'm feeling much better & the air is finally moving. Doctor says my heart rate too low so they wanna do an EKG, just to make sure. Also, I haven't gotten any pain meds at all due to my heart rate being so low. But they seem pretty confident about me goin home.

I was banded yesterdy, on the 27th. Did great yesterday....was able to walk around the block and eat (or drink) my Clear Liquids. BUT sometime during the night I started having esophageal spasms which are absolutely excruitiating!! I called my doctor's office and they said it was normal...something called "slimeing." Then I throw up sputum mostly. She says the liquids are getting down, but it hurts, hurts when anything goes down. I can tolerate the incisional pain and even gas pains, but I didn't sign up for this much pain. I just hope it goes away soon. Is anyone else getting this pain and if so, what are you doing for it?

I am full almost all the time...I have been "full" before and still ate and ate...this time around...I do not know if it is the fear of eating too much and feeling the wreath of Mr. Lap Band or what...I am not even had a fill and the lap band was left unfilled at surgery...while in one hand i am so grateful, but the next thought is what will happen if I cannot get in the calories...I cannot seem to get the shakes down in quantity needed...anyone else feel this way?

Hi all-

I, too, was banded yesterday and am just home from the hospital. In the recovery room I needed three meds for nausea as well as pain meds. This helped. I managed to walk 20 total las around the very large rectangular nurses station(basically around the whole hospital tower). Once the nausea subsided, the gas has been the worst. I can get past the soreness but around my ribcage (sometimes into my shoulder) ...it is so tight and hurts from the gas. I can't find a comfortable position at all. I haven't had pain meds since 4:30 this morning. A little bit nervous of taking the Loritab due to my history with nausea.

I have been able to keep down some Soup broth, a tiny bit of diet sorbett, Water and watered down cranberry juice (drinking that due to having touble going to the bathroom all night....almost felt like a bladder infection. I wa holding onto all the IV fluids and could not go. This morning, I seem to be making up for it..lol). The discharge nurse said that the gas usually subsides within 2 weeks....I hope that it doesn't take 2 weeks.

Well, now they can't get my heart rate up so they moved my to the cardiac/telemetry unit. Still got that wicked bad pain in my chest. They say if my heart rate doesn't come up, it'll be pacemaker time. Another surg...no way, especially if they gotta crack open my chest! I'm really scared. Every1 does so well @ this. Not me. Even if I'm having a hard time, doesn't mean every1 else will. I wish every1 luck who has started this. And thank you all for your support & encouragement.

Inkgurl......I will be praying for you. Try not to be scared...I know, easier said than done. Have faith that this will just be your set back and that you will get better soon. Others have had lots of vomiting, really bad and painful bloating and gas(that is me...almost can't move) and others have had to unfill almost as soon as they had surgery. I am not siminishing what you are going through at all...I just wish for you to be able to relax and concestrate on getting better. Stress can't help.

Like I said, I will be praying for you and wishing you the best. Keep us posted.

Is it normal to not be able to burp anymore or will this ability be able to come back after I have recovered? I feel like one is coming and it comes like halfway up then goes back down and hurts so bad.

Any help please.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
