Brandi18 2 Posted March 17, 2012 My surgery is on Tuesday! My doc didn't say anything about a pre-surgery diet. Should I have been doing one? I'm confused. BMI is 42.6 if that makes a difference. Thanks!
Cocoabean 430 Posted March 17, 2012 Not all surgeons require one for all patients. Be happy! Rest up and we look forward to seeing you on the losers' bench! 1 kr8160311 reacted to this
NWgirl 574 Posted March 17, 2012 Mine only requires a low fat diet, but for the sake of losing more weight up front, I have been drinking Protein Shakes for at least two meals a day.

imarzz 5 Posted March 17, 2012 My doc does not require a pre-op diet. Just trying to practice chewing, eating more slowly and trying to stop eating when satisfied. Mainly I hate puking so I thought I should practice this new eating style. Good luck to you.
coachshalyn 17 Posted March 18, 2012 The reason for the pre-op diet was to shrink the liver. My doctor said that it shrinks the liver a bit and the first place you lose weight is around the liver. It just makes it easier to move aside since the area of the stomach they work on is behind it. If insurance companies would cover ultrasounds before AND after you started a diet, this could be a proven or disproven theory. There isn't much research that this is true, so it is really just each doctor'shown personal experiences and preferences.
