Getting Upset With Self

Recommended Posts

I had band placed on 1-30-12 and have only lost 8 pounds. I had my first fill on march 5 2012. And still nothing happening. I have been going to the gym daily and I walk 3 miles on thread mill and hour and bike the exerise bike for 1/2 an hour. I am making sure I have a intake of 45 protiens a day through food and not shakes as instructed. AND YET NOTHING. WTH am I doing wrong? I did better with the liquid diet before surgery then I am now. WHY???? I drink plenty of Water.

I really need HELP......

What I need is a 365 day book with everything in print to follow. There are days I do not feel hungry but know I need to eat.

Your caloric intake might be too little. I'm no band expert by any means, because I'm a slower loser myself, but it seems like you're really low on calories, especially if you're exercising!

are you logging your food? I agree doesn't look like enough food. body might be in starvation mode, won't let any weight loose.

I start my day with some scrambled eggs( 1 egg & 2 egg whites), I add mushrooms & spinach. I try to get about 20 - 30 grams of Protein in the am. I occasionally add a thin sandwich toasted. it gives me lots of energy and makes my am workout so much more productive.

as the day continues I eliminate the carbs. lunch I still add a veggie with protein. Supper mostly protein with some veggie.

I try to get about 60 to 90 grams of protein each day. I don't always make it to 90 but that is the goal.

I have found that I feel so much better, more energy now. I occasionally have a day where I eat some carbs that are not complex carbs. I don't want to do it very often though.

my weight loss has been slow but steady. my body is firming up nicely, I am an older woman so I am thrilled with the progress I have made.

As for you, this is what I do. read other peoples story and try one!

I'm pretty sure everyone's instructions are different depending on their doctor, however i agree, sounds like to little. My doctor wants me on 60-70 grams of protean a day once i can eat again, 60 a day till then. Also says around 1000-1200 cal a day(once i can eat that solid food that is). But i def would look into the idea you might not be eating enough to keep your body out of that starvation mode.

Good Luck!

I was given an equation to calculate what I need as far as protein: body weight x 0.3 = amount of Protein required per day.

I know it seems like you should already be losing, but I want to remind you that some people do not lose until they get more fills. I remember reading that B52 gained weight between the first fill or two and only started to really lose once he hit proper restriction.

Don't beat yourself up, it will all come off in due time. Just keep chugging along and don't lose site of your goals :)

I just got back from seeing my excercise and dietician today.. Since my surgery on Feb 8th I have lost 26 pounds.. i was eating between 400 -600 cal per day, that includes the two Protein shakes.. My dietician said she would like me to eat between 700 - 900 cal per day.. Getting over 60 grams of Protein is really important they say and drinking more then 64 oz is too.. I start reg food today ( just had 2 oz of roasted chicken and a 1/2 cup of salad, which is the first time I've had 3/4 cup of food, I've been staying at 1/2 cup of food per meal ) I just haven't figured out how to measure out 1/4 cup of salad since it's comes out to about 3 leaves, lol!! think I will chop up smaller..

Anyway, My excercise guy said, that when we excercise and do the same thing it bores our body and we don't lose wt.. he said change up it good.. Right now that's hard for me, because I broke my foot in Nov and it's still not fully healed, but I can walk so walking is what I do.

Have you called you dr. and spoken to anyone that can help you??

Hang in there!!

Thank you all. I did talk to my dietian today and she told me no protien shakes and 45 g of Protein an day and not to worry about the calories. I am right where I should be. She said that I lost alot before surgery so body is still adjusting to that.

I sure with at least one person in the office staff would have had this done. Then they could say oh I know what that is like or yes I went through that. But thanks again...

My two cents:

8 lbs is not bad for being 6 weeks out from surgery...don't beat yourself up! Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint.

You're not eating enough. Your body needs fuel to burn, especially if you're exercising. Try increasing your food intake by a couple hundred calories and see if that helps. Also, don't get stuck in a food rut and eat the same things every day.

If that doesn't help, you may want to try changing up your exercise routine. Add strength training if your doctor says it's ok. Building muscle will help your metabolism.

Most importantly, don't give up!

It's called "Bandster Hell" and everyone goes through in one form or another.

All you can do is continue the best you know how, and continue to see your Surgeon

to get regular adjustment (fills) and eventually things will become easier and change.

My doctor said 3 oz of Protein per meal. So your lunch seems low on protein. As for one fill not helping welcome to the club. I did not get restriction for 6 months. Loosing a lot before surgery can affect rate of loss after. I lost about 100 pounds presurgery so I have been a slow loser after. I also exercise 7 days a week for an hour. When I got laid off in January I started going twice a day. Even so I have only lost 10 pounds in 2.5 months.

OKAY now I am getting mad at self. What I am doing is not working. I joined the gym across the street and with all I do still nothing. Charting food and plenty of Water and still nothing. I go back on the 5th of April and no results this month. even a 1/2 a pound would be better then nothing. I just don't get it. I know getting depressed and doing nothing will not help so. I am looking for a new exersice routine and any suggestions. My clothes are all bigger but no pounds off just do not understand.

Thanks the whinner......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
