Dull Soreness At Band Area...?

Recommended Posts

I am 3 1/2 weeks out of surgery and still have pretty good soreness at band sight. Not sure if it's from hernia repair and band being done at same time. But it almost feels like heartburn too. Just had primer taken out and now able to eat mushies and get all my liquids in. I was dehydrated because I was too tight and couldn't get anything in and then had swelling in my esophagus that took almost a week to go away. So now I'm back on prilosec. I get nauseous real easy too. I am so glad to be going to the support group tonight. But is this sound normal at this stage? Just looking for others thoughts.

I had that too. I had a very severe hernia that was repaired and it took several weeks to stop hurting. I wasn't aware of that and wanted the lap-band removed!! :) But then I called the Dr. and they told me that. They told me to chew on ice. I don't know if you have a chicken Express around you, and if you do if they have the same kind of ice machines, but the ones here make perfect soft tiny ice. I went and got a big bag of it.

It soothed everything and kept me from getting dehydrated.

I too thought of wishing it gone because of the pain. I have a smoothie maker that makes awesome snow cone ice (but softer). I will have to make some just to eat plain :) Thanks for the idea. I just hope that it goes away soon, I return to work next week, I sub as a lunch server and there is heavy lifting. I have been released to do anything, but I took another week just to play it safe.

I hope it helps, it worked for me. And being dehydrated makes you not feel well too. I also took the nasty pain medicine. I don't like liquid meds but they said it would help. It did and it didn't make me drowsy. Did you get something like that?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
