This Is Making Me Crazy

Recommended Posts

I have read in a lot of posts that you should hide the scale. I am beginning to understand why. I was banded on Jan 30th, 2012. To date I have lost only 26 pounds. I am eating very healthy food, getting at least 80 grams of Protein from my food. I don't drink sodas, eat candy, cake or breads. I rarely even drink Protein Drinks. The kicker is that I have lost 8 inches on my waist. I went from a 52 inch waist to a 44. Anyone else here losing the inches but not the weight. BTW, I have joined a gym, I go at least 3 times a week and have a recumbent bicycle in my home which I use on my off gym days. I have heard that muscle weighs more than fat but come on. I sure would feel happier if the weight was shedding too. This probably sounds like a whine and I guess it is. I probably should put the scale away. Am i being unreasonable? Are my expectations too high?

PS. I forgot to add that I am limiting myself to a 1200 calorie diet? I wonder if my body feels as though I am starving though I don't feel that way.

since you are working out now, you are going to start gaining muscle. muscle weighs more then fat so as you lose the fat and start gaining the muscle you will see your weightloss slow even though the inches are comming off. I am at this point now. The muscle you are building will start helping with weight loss since muscle tissue burns more calories.

I do hide the scale for about a month at a time. I keep a close eye on what I am eating and make sure I stick to my workout schedual. It is far less frustrating that way. Also Water is key, I know the average we are told is 6-8 glasses a day but it really does very on weight and height. I drink about 4 liters a day. here is a link to a good calculator to find out how much you should be drinking. It could help restart your weight loss. http://nutrition.about.com/library/blwatercalculator.htm If you want to see a down fall on the scale also try veriing your calorie intake a little here and there. calculate how many calories you should be having in a week and one day maybe eat 1000 and another day eat 1400. just concentrate on the week as a whole.

good luck :D

That is 4.3 pounds per week i think that is super great! been there myself, same story went in for a fill monday and doc tested my metabolism and gave me some herbs to increase my metabolism, he explained to me that he could keep making me tighter but my metabolism was just going to keep getting lower and lower that eventually i could be eating 500 calories and not losing an ounce. today (3 days later) i have lost the 2 pounds that i have so desperately been trying to lose for the past 3 weeks, cant say if it is the pills or not, to be honest i have never believed in that crap. but you can bet your boots i am going to finish this months supply without missing a dose lol Good Luck on your journey i think you are doing awesome dont worry about hiding the scale lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
