Two Things. Gas After Eating? Stability Of Band And Port?

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow is one week post op for me. Over the past few days I've noticed that after I put anything in my stomach, whether it be a Protein shake or applesauce or yogurt, I end up getting gas. Sometimes it's just a minor annoyance, but sometimes it is gas pain and makes me feel....not nauseated, but definitely not a happy camper. Is this something I should worry about, or is it normal?

Also, how stable is the band and the port. I've been keeping mild activity, such as walking, and doing my best not to stretch and pop my back, but I've had a couple of coughing spells and sneezed a few times, and I'm worry about things moving or slipping in there. Am I just being overly paranoid?

On the gas it's completely normal. Everyone gets it. Use gasx and milk of magnesia( worked better for me) and make sure you walk around, to help it pass.

Your second question I would also like to know the answer. I was banded on the 7th and have had coughing spells and yesterday I had the hiccups, I was scared I was going to move the band!!!

This is all normal. I had the worst gas pains for a good 2 months after surgery. Tje movement thing... I could sworn at times there was a child kicking around in my belly after surgery. Made me very uneasy. That too is normal. Ur muscle tissues take a long time to heal after surgery. You can do the same activities u always have been able to... just know ur limits. When it doesn't feel right.... back down a bit. I'm 13 months post op and my port still gives me a run for its money at times. Lol :) good luck and Congrats on the new you <3

I get these horrible cramps during the day. I guess it is gas? They are very annoying. I'm hoping they go away soon. I had surgery 3 weeks ago this coming Thursday.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
