So Nervous! Just A Few Questions!

Recommended Posts

I'm new here and to the whole idea of Lap band surgery too and so far it just seems too easy to be true. I have bcbs of tx and all they required was a nutrition visit, a psych evaluation, and te regular medical tests. I feel like a problem is going to arise any time now.

Basically what I'm asking is this:

What can I expect from the psych eval? I'm using true results in Houston if that helps.

Does anyone else have bcbs of tx? Was it reall as easy as it seems so far?

I had anthem bcbs and I was only required to submit a list of past diets and BMI above 40. My surgery center required nutritionist, psychologist, physical therapist, nurse practitioner, surgeon visit, sleep study, and blood tests.

if you are worried, just contact your insurance and ask for requirements.

I have bcbs of Texas...it is THAT easy...the psych eval is just basic questions about why ur overweight and things like has your weight ever made u suicidal...some of the things they ask r a little weird but basically it's a breeze!!

i have bcbs too, they approved me for lap band in about 3 weeks or less/ my paperwork was sent in last early nov and i was approved by end of nov. i was banded dec 13th , doing great ! i just followed their requirements and sent in my drs note, past weight watchers records, psych eval, sleep apnea tests, bmi, bp test, nutritionist records , etc. basically anything they asked for. hope all goes quickly for you, when youre waiting to get approved the time sure goes slow, doesnt it ? but im down 22 lbs and a whole size, so i think getting banded was a excellent decision. start exercising now, you can thank yourself later. good luck !

So I went and I felt really silly after! It was pretty simple. Other than the 300 question packet I had to fill out. Apparently that's all I have to wait for. I just have to set a surgery date! Which will apparently be soon since they told be to go ahead and start the liquid diet!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
