Potato Chips Without Guilt

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a "Topchips" microwave chip maker. Today I tried making sweet potato chips. No spice &no oil. They are wonderful! This will help me get through the munches in a healthy way. It has three silicone trays that you load with raw pieces of vegetable (potato, carrot, etc) or fruit (such as apple, pear, mango). Mine came with a food slicer to slice the product thin and uniform. Each load took 8 1/2 minutes in the microwave and then I turned the chips out onto a metal rack to cool. They were crisp and tasty.

The maker of the chip maker is Mastrad. It was featured on Today show a while back. There are a few chp makers out there but during a taste test, this one came out on top. I bought it on Amazon.< /p>

Veggie Straws are a great snack. They are flavored from Spinach, Tomato, and Potato, but all taste the same... just like a very light version of plain potato chips without the grease and salt. There are 38 straws in a serving only 130 calories. I purchased them at Sams.

See link below with more nutrition info. Happy Snacking!

Epicure sells a similar product called a Chipster. They also sell seasonings to flavor your potato chips. It is a great product.

http://www.epicureselections.com/en/products/food/healthy-snacks/4215/chipster/

Search the site and you'll find the seasonings... Backyard BBQ Seasoning & Poutine Seasoning. I don't sell for Epicure but I'm sure someone in your area does.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
