Is Constipation A Problem For Anyone Else?

Recommended Posts

I'm not using the restroom daily, I started soft food on Monday and have not used the restroom since Sunday. I have only been able to eat soft fruit and veggies, meat upsets my stomach. I am still not doing number two.

I struggle with that. I started chewing the benefiber tablets every day. I upped it to 3 a day and it solved the problem. I read on here somewhere that 'probiotic pearls' help with digestive upsets, getting some shipped to me. And drink lots of water!

Take a stool softener daily for a while, it'll help get you back on track. Also, if it's been since Sunday, I'd take one by tomorrow or Friday because it can be a nightmare if you go too long without going. Trust me!

I ate prunes daily for about 4-6 weeks....after that time I pretty much went back to my normal self.

I still suffer from this problem. First, don't wait too long or you'll need a laxative instead of a stool softner. I take Benefiber. I mix a tablespoon in my first shake in the morning and then in my Water at night. It seems to be helping.

I have always had Constipation issues, and I try and keep tabs on how long I go. When I hit day 3, I try and take something gentle like a stool softener, but when I hit day 5, I have to take Milk of Magnesia, which works wonders! I would talk to your doctor if it continues and see what the recommend!

I also am having some issues and am just on pre-op diet. I am getting plenty of Protein and fiber per day, so I purchased the probiotic pearls last night and will see if those help. I also bought a little milk of magnesia because it is definitely not an enjoyable feeling!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
