myjourneyagain 45 Posted March 14, 2012 What is the best practice for drinking your liquids? Through a straw or sip from a cup?
DonnaMP 13 Posted March 14, 2012 I carry a cup with Water around with me 24/7...I drink only from a straw. Each to their own on that one I guess.
xavier 153 Posted March 14, 2012 I am an old bander and not much for straws I guess. I coulnt imagine what difference it could possibly make! I know plenty of banders do it and my doc never mentioned it...I have tried t twice and immediately had to throw up in a painful way...weird!
myjourneyagain 45 Posted March 14, 2012 Thank you for the responses. I wasn't sure if drinking through a straw would give you gas or not! I'm just starting my journey and want to get as much information as possible on every topic. Again Thanks so much!
JustDoIt130 369 Posted March 14, 2012 My Dr said that to each his own, but the air you can suck in can cause gas or bloating. I don't have any issues myself. Ymmv.
cfalbro 23 Posted March 14, 2012 I was told no straws and when I just went in for my 2 week follow up my doctor actually asked if I've been following his orders. I don't use a straw because I was told not to. I don't want to do ANYTHING to screw this up LOL.
myjourneyagain 45 Posted March 14, 2012 That was my exact concern. Thank you all for the responses.

Toddy 758 Posted March 14, 2012 I've been using a straw since day of surgery and not had any problems or adverse effects at all!
andrea0121 28 Posted March 14, 2012 I use a straw too. Never was told not to.
bev712 28 Posted March 14, 2012 I was told no straws because when you sip through them you tend to take more liquid than just the recommended sip.

Lady T730 3 Posted March 14, 2012 I don't have any problems using a straw.
pen527 6 Posted March 14, 2012 My doctor says no to straws, something about sucking in air and getting gas. But..... I always use a straw for everything and have no problems. I am also guilty of gulping, but I've never had any problems. Something about sipping just doesn't work for me.
