I had my surgery 4 days ago. I had a hiatal hernia that had to be repaired as well & it hurts MUCH worse than my band. I am pretty much living off of broth & Protein Shakes. I am hungry & thinking about moving on to thicker foods. Would that be a bad idea?

When does your Dr say you can move on? My dr says Days 1-5 liquids, Day 6-11 mushies and after that regular foods. Your stomach needs time to heal. I know everyone is different but I haven't had the desire to eat more than the liquids.

if it's hurting I wouldn't chance it. The hernia needs tme to heal. I was on liquids for 12 days afterwards.

Geez, I had four weeks of liquids! You want the best chance of success? Follow YOUR doctor's rules. He/she puts them in place for a reason and that is to give you the best possible outcome.

Give yourself some time. Be patient. I blended ALOT of Soups on the liquid phase. I seemed to fill the void. Good luck and hang in there.

I am one week post op today and I was and am right were you are....HUNGRY!!! I found blending (and can't stand the taste of pureed foods) helps. I have eating Soups from Panera, spaghettios, refried Beans, etc. My discharge orders from the hospital said after Clear Liquids for the first 48 hours, I could move to full liquids--cream soups, yogurts, puddings, OR anything purreed that could easily go through a straw. So, I ate just about anything that could fit through a straw. I have also found that I am stressing too much about just eating 3 meals, not drinking before, during or after, yada, yada. I decided I need to set some of the to the side and eat every couple hours just to function and not worry so much about the rest. It is still in the back of my mind and try to abide by it as much as I can, but I was getting to the point where I was feeling weak, dizzy, etc. I called my dr today and talked to him about all of this and he said as long as things were the fit through the straw consistency and nothing was getting stuck I was fine. So after all of that....go ahead and eat just try to make it smooth.

I was on clear liquids for 7 days and full liquids for another 7. It sucks but those are the rules.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
