First Few Bites Hurt

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I have been banded for 4 months and I am slowly getting my act together and making better decisions. I have 5.25 CCs in a 10 cc band and so far I feel little restriction, I do get pains in my left side when I eat too much but other than that not much.

One thing I do experience is that the first few bites of solid food always hurt a bit, but then by the 3rd bite it's ok. I can't describe the feeling but it feels like the food wants to go back up but it doesn't. So I stop eating a bit then continue and then it's ok.

This doesn't happen with mushie food or salads. But for example a baked potato, a sushi roll. I have Cereal in the morning no problems there but for lunch that's when it starts happening.

I am not following a low carb high Protein diet, so these things are part of my diet albeit with moderation.

Is this normal? I want to get more fills since I get hungry too often and I can still eat quite a bit it I let myself

I get that feeling fairly often it's like I'm getting stuck it happens even with yogurt sometimes I stop and start again a do get stuck. I'm at what I call my grn zone and this is good restriction for me. I follow a high Protein low carb diet but it feels a little like I swallowed a rock with first few bites. I take it as a sign to and not get stuck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
