I am on vacation this week and I have had about 5 or 6 pepsi's in the last week. I had my surgery on feb 20th. I had a moment of weakness because I had gone so long without soda. But I am done not to touch another soda. Have I messed up my lapband? Would I notice if I had messed up my pouch? What are the chances that I have messed up my pouch?

I don't think you've messed up your band. I've read of other bandsters whose doctors say soda is ok. I've had a few soda's over the last year as a treat and I'm fine. Good Luck!

I asked my doctor if anything bad would happen if i did have a soda or two from time to time and she said no but advised me to have diet and not make it a regular thing. Personally I think your ok just try not to make it a habit. you had a moment of weakness dont we all?

While I don't really think this had anything to do with why my band slipped, I am going to take it easy on the cokes. I didn't drink a lot of them the first go around, but I don't want to take a chance.

No.... i'm sure you are fine. I have given up soooo many things in this journey.... but my Mt. Dew will not be one of them. I buy the 8oz can and sip on that one can.... ALL DAY. It's my limit.... I spoke with my dr. and he said that was fine.

Once you hit restriction, soda will hurt like a mother (for some people, me being one of them). I did soooooooooooooo well before and months after my surgery not drinking soda. My lovely boyfriend brings home bottled cream soda and I was like hmmmmmm, I want that. OW. I had to let it sit open for like 2 hours for me to enjoy it (and let the fizz go out of it). That first drink of it though with the fizz? no bueno.

There's also a lady in my december bandster's forum who drinks a fountain soda every day with no problem. I think a lot of it has to do with the Dr's not wanting you to drink your calories early on...I dunno. I'm sure you're fine though. :)

I think early days after op gas can cause pain an problems. Not sure about later.

In the beginning I was able to drink soda but recently had a "good" fill and that evening I tried to drink a Gin &Diet Tonic. I thought I was going to die. I was so blown up and ended having a very restless night. Lesson learned! As a matter of fact, there are several "rules" they talked about right after I was banded and none of them had ever applied until now. What a difference a fill makes.

If you'd messed up your band, you'd know it. You'd be in pain and/or vomitting.

Just be careful. When I got banded, the woman who shared the room with me was in there getting her ban replaced. She'd lost 80 pounds, then gained back 40 and prolapsed her band by drinking soda regularly. She was very specific, too. It was the soda that caused the prolapse.

Not trying to scare anyone, but you can do damage with carbonated beverages when you're banded.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
