Pre Op Weight Loss Success

Recommended Posts

I just posted this on the general board. Have any of you asked yourself this question?

I could be getting cold feet as my April 2 date gets closer, maybe I'm looking for an excuse but now that I'm on the preop diet and making a serious attempt to lose weight, I'm losing weight. Im following all the rules, getting myself ready, i.e.: drinking tons of Water, stepped up my exercising, dropped all carbs, no alcohol, concentrating on Protein. So, the question I'm asking myself that Im sure you all asked yourselves: If I'm losing weight now can I do this without the band IF I continue following these rules which are the same rules I'd have to follow with the band?

Those that asked yourself that question, went through with the surgery and can now look back....what are your thoughts on this?...thank you so much for your insight.

ELCEE, B52 and Corrigan Im counting on you to reply!!!! : )

Glove, you already know the answer to that question. its not that we can't lose the weight its that we begin to slip after awhile and before we know it we have put it all back on and more. With the band we will not be able to do that when we slip and fall back into our old habits the band will help, go get a fill and start over. it will work FOR GOOD

Moma50, Yes, I did know the answer but desperately needed to hear variations of it from all of you and have it in writing so I can read and reread for the next 3 weks. Im beginning to over think and over analyze all this and talk myself out of it! Thank you!

Glove I'm doing the same thing. Thing is, I too know the answer. I've struggled my entire life with weight and yet it continues to be a problem. It's been like being on a roller coaster and the highs just keep getting higher and lows are less frequent and very short lived. In my case, the most I've lost in the last 8 yrs was about 12 lbs and that was being on HCG for 6 wks and I put back on 20+ after that. I'm also smart enough to know that if I DON'T get control I will be facing bigger issues with my health. That is something I can't afford. I'm willing to work my *ss off to lose this weight but I need to feel like there is some reward at the end. If I get it off, I want to keep it off forever!

It's been helping me to stay super busy and not let myself get too much into my own head. AND sharing it all with you guys.

Happy Wednesday!

julz~

Glove - I echo everyone else and I asked myself that same question. But I asked it of my husband who said...always calls it like he sees it...I've been there before. I am always starting good on diets...but follow thru is where i lack. I need a diet that I can't start on Monday and quit by Thursday....

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
