ljones4521 4 Posted February 23, 2006 I am so happy. I never thought I could do it. I did it about 3.1 mph and an incline of 11 (ok, sometimes I had to drop it down to 9 but still...). I am a little confused about something. I think I misunderstood the trainer, so I am hoping one of you can clear things up. I burned about 600 calories. Did I burn fat that was already stored or did I just basically burn 600 calories of the food I ate today? I hope to add weight training in a few weeks. Thanks much, :whoo:
Mvpo8961 1 Posted February 23, 2006 This is my understanding and please correct me if I am wrong. When you exercise (aerobically) you initially use your glucose(sugar) as a fuel source. The longer you exercise the less glucose you have readily available and your body begins to convert fat for fuel/energy. Kind of a rule of thirds. If you exercised for one hour then the first 20 minutes primarily glucose is used. Second 20 minutes half glucose/half fat. Third 20 minutes reverses to mostly fat with little glucose. This would be for an hour of aerobic exercise. If you exercised longer it would of course continue to convert fat for fuel. M

CCBSTX 0 Posted February 23, 2006 Good work! Mvpo sounds correct to me. My surgeon said aerobic exercise burns fat and doesn't start the fat-burning until after 30 minutes. Shawn
