Okay I gave in and bought a juicer. I will not be juicing fruit as I like it and will eat it if I have some. But I hate vegetables not all of them but most. I know I need all those nice green and yellow veggies that I would never eat. So I am juicing them just to get the added nutrition. I know we are suppose to eat instead of drink these things but I just can't do it and I seem to be able drink the juice and keep it down. So far spinach, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers all together and 4 or 5 grapes to kill the taste. I takes about 2 cups of each of the greens to get some juice

Any downsides you see to this?

I love juicing! I started because I read that cabbage would help heal ulcers and any intestinal issues. I drink cabbage, I add a granny smith and it is sooooo good. I drink it every day!

I have a friend who got the news that her ulcer (she had a lesion) is healed. she also juices!

they is so much info online about juicing, it is great!

I have juiced ginger, garlic, kale..... there is no end. I juice the leftover veggies in the frig as an add on. it really gets addictive & when the veggie is fresh I know I am getting nutrients!

It amazes me that veggies that you hate are actually palatable juiced. To me the thought of spinach and cabbage juice is just too horrible to even contemplate. If I have to eat a veggie that I don't like I would rather hide it in with other foods and eat it or cook it till really soft, cover it in gravy and then swallow.

My most hated veggie is peas. When I was a kid my father used to make me eat them so I would cover them in Tomato ketchup and swallow them whole. To this day I still hate them but if they are served to me in a stew or savoury mince mixed up with something I can cope . The thought of them turned into juice is gross - you are braver than me for doing this!

Trust me I do not want to do it but trying to be healthy. With the spinach and cabbage you have to use a lot more than you would ever eat to get some juice and mix it with a lot of other stuff. The cucumber mixed with it I could taste and did not really like it. But a friend does one apple and alot of carrots and it is so good.

Just a note about peas. I hate peas. I could eat green Beans all night but a pea yuck. When I was a kid my mom and stepdad would make us sit at the table till we ate those peas among other stuff. I spent many a night sitting in a dark kitchen while people were sleeping. Needless to say I did not do that to my kid and he eats a lot more veggies than I did or do.

Next I am gonna try some yellow stuff (need I say yuck)

I think our parents may be related although I never ended up still at the table at bedtime. There were times when they would threaten to serve me anything I hadn't eaten on my plate for Breakfast. I often wonder how much being forced to eat everything on my plate even stuff I didm't like contributed to my weight issues. As for the starving kids in Africa - I offered to put my food into an envelope and send it to them , I wasn't sure how me eating the stuff was going to help them.

Peas for Breakfast would be like waking up in hell lol. I wish I would have thought of that when I was a kid.

I love juicing! It's such a great and easy way to get those nutrients. Kale is a superfood and you cant even taste it juiced. When juicing a lot of greens you need to get an apple or carrot in there to mask the green taste. I did a 15 day juice fast and lost 20 lbs. i was on a detox/cleansing program. Im assuming you have watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead? What a great documentary!

Try this one:

2 gala apples

2 carrots

5 kale leaves

6 strawberries

Or this one

Celery, rommaine, 5 kale leaves, 1 apple, 1 lemon, a smidgeon of ginger

Happy Juicing!

Kale and chard are superfoods and good for juicing with fruits. And neither is palatable raw and cooked takes away a lot of the nutrition. As for peas have any of you pea-haters ever had them raw out of the pod right off the vine? They are nothing like what your parents made you eat! I never made my daughter eat anything ever! I only offered healthy food and at 17 she is vegan and a beautiful girl and what our school calls a scholar athlete...sometimes they do know whats best!

I just bought a vita mix cause I had so much trouble with fruits and veggies. I LOVE it- I just got filled after almost 2 years off (had a baby) so I just make it pretty thin! I had apple & cuke juice today along with a lemon ice for dessert- a whole lemon with a bit of agave nectar and tons of ice- yumm! Whatever we can do to make eating healthy foods work is worth it!

I must say I am enjoying knowing some veggies are going in me. But I will never do cabbage again. It almost killed me with gas.

I just ordered a juicer and I can't wait for it to come in. I have so much trouble eating vegetables (they get stuck easily) unless I cook them to death and even then I sometimes have trouble and they have lost a lot of their nutrients. I am looking forward to getting in some wonderful nutrients without having to struggle with eating them.

I eventually want to do a fast, but I think at first i will be having juice for Breakfast and a snack, and eat solid food at lunch and dinner. My hubby and I are going on a cruise next month and when I get back, I plan on doing a juice fast to detox and then plan to follow a vegetarian diet.

I have been looking online for recipes and I signed up for a free e-book that has 25 recipes. I am going to attempt to paste the recipes, but if it doesn't work, check out www.myjuicecleanse.com

I find that if I alternate a small meal with a shake - I eat 3 small meals a day and drink two shakes. I almost always use an apple, then I can add kale, sprouts, cukes, spinach and the apple makes it taste good. Btw-that's with a Vitamix blender not a juicer. Don't forget to use organic!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
