RoniB 13 Posted March 11, 2012 Ok, I am so ashamed. I bought a pint of ice cream and ate the whole thing in 1 sitting. I feel so guilty. I am getting nervous and antsy, this is my final week of requirements before paperwork is submit for final OK by insurance. I am a nervous wreck, 1 about having surgery, 2 about "can I go without the food I'm use to". Too, this week is my chemical stress test for pre-op, I had one several years ago and it was frightening to feel my heart trying to jump out of my chest. This may be the real cause of my anxiety now that I think about it. Has anyone else gone off the deep end just before having surgery or am I a poor candidate for lap band Roni
Allison0927 329 Posted March 11, 2012 my nutritionist said that one of the men she counseled spent the 30 days before surgery (not sure which type) going on a "farewell tour" of all his favorite restaurants - including several buffets. He gained 30 pounds before surgery. Not sure what happened for him after surgery. All I can say is I think you will find that a lot of people did at least one, two or 3 "final meals" right before starting the pre-op liquid/limited diet. I know I did - but 8 months and more than 100 pounds lost later - i know it didn't hurt anything. Just don't go overboard!
B-52 7,113 Posted March 12, 2012 I had to do the liver shrinking diet pre-surgery. My Dr. told me if I did not loose the weight, He would postpone the surgery to another date. My surgery was a monday morning. My final appoinment / weigh in was the friday before. So, guess what I did Saturday?? Had my final meal. I went somewhere I knew I would never set foot in again...a Chinese "All You Can Eat" Buffet. Savored every minute. The Sunday, I went on a 24 hr fast for mondays surgery. I had heard stories where people where under full anesthesia in the OR, and the Dr. stopped the surgery because the liver was too enlarged and he did not want to risk it. Also, I take exception to you saying you're a poor candidate for lap band surgery. If you, and we for that matter were so good at controlling our hunger, we wouldn't need this surgery. You're trying to act like someone who has been banded a year and you haven't had the surgery yet. Lighten up on yourself.
Alerker 10 Posted March 12, 2012 I am starting my boost today, and I went a little crazy this weekend out to dinner Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I was told by my NP that this is very common and they call it Last Supper Syndrome. Don't get down on yourself, we are all in the same boat. Good luck to you
Lannae 46 Posted March 14, 2012 For me, I have done the tour so many times in my life I said good bye and fare well over 100 times and my weight showed for it...This time when they said start the diet, I started it..I had to get it started in my head...It was not easy but I think it helped..good luck! Diva817 2 Posted March 15, 2012 No you are not a poor candidate for surgery. The day before surgery my doctors actually told me to go out and eat my last big meal and of course I topped it off with ice cream. Even prior to I wanted to get as much in prior to surgery as I knew I would either never eat or have smaller portions after surgery. You are not alone and not a bad person. And yes I have been successful with my weight loss after surgery.
