Do You Like The Taste Of Food More Or Less Since Your Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I have found now that I have to slow down when I am eating I actually have the time to see if I like the food. I can taste it and feel it in ways I did not before. I really love good food now which was never really the case. A nice cup of coffee is heaven now and fruit...so very different.

I hardly eat fruit these days. A lot of it is too slimy and it slips past without me being able to chew it properly, a pity because good fresh fruit (when you can get it) is wonderful

A nice cup of coffee is lovely, I say as I drink my 1st cup of the day! However, I tolerate most fruit by drinking a fruit smoothy in the morning for Breakfast. Love fresh fruit, and here in Florida, we get it early in the year. My strawberry smoothies are to die for!

my tastes haven't changed but i've noticed i'm more sensitive to smells... I have a hard time with very powerful smells like garlic, onions, etc.. I love eating them but I can get put off now by strong food smells which never happened before surgery.. Right now I've not gotten in any fruit, been sticking with Protein and veggies.. I eat only 3 meals a day and can't seem to get my fruit in.. See the dietitican soon so hopefully she will give me some ideas how to get it in..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
