Melgirl 0 Posted March 10, 2012 I have an appt this week with a local Bariatric Surgery center that offers 3 different types of weight loss surgery. I am wondering what your deciding factor was in choosing the Lap Band over Gastric Bypass? I am having trouble deciding which surgery to go with. I have researched pros and cons of both surgeries and still don't know. I have a little over a 100 lbs to lose. Any thoughts or advice would be helpful. Thank you. mandagay 93 Posted March 10, 2012 For me I didn't want the bypass because it was too much and u could stretch ur belly right back out! The thought of them move things around and rerouting things terrified me! Minimally invasive is my friend hehe. U can go on utube and type in lap ban surgery and watch a surgery unedited. I'm sure u could do the same for the bypass and see which seems less intense. Other than the incredible gas which u get with both, I can't really complain so far
Lap Band Gal 41 Posted March 10, 2012 If possible, attend the support groups associated with each surgery to learn more. Listen to the patients and hear what it's like for their day to day lives. This is what I did and this made me choose the band, not RNY.
sandymax 27 Posted March 10, 2012 I got lap band as a tool to help me get my life on track as far as weight loss. I would never sign on to change my anatomy. That's not cool with me. Also my brother had gastric bypass at 550+ lbs and has gained most of it back. He can't adjust anything and has to reply on supplements for 80 percent of his nutrition. I agree with going to support groups. If I had to choose between lap band and nothing then I choose nothing. But that's just me and we're all different in everyway except our battle with weight loss. Good luck to you. I pray you find your own answers. 2 dagmar68 and Cazzy reacted to this
