When i got banded, about 2-3 weeks in i was really sore around my biggest incision, there were days when i felt like i was gonna rip my stitches open if i stood up straight! I put bacatracin on them and around them to soften to skin and to subside to itchiness and it helped, dont be afraid to like put a glob of it over it if youre home just watchin tv. it passes!! i promise! good luck !

I was banded this past Tuesday and I have itchy belly also!!!! Man does it ever feel good just to scratch it!! And I'm a scratcher at that, I am not one of those people that don't itch if something itches. I go to town! lol

I got banded on the 7th and I'm having the same reaction. In thinking its just an allergic reaction, not an infection. But it is itching like hell! Ive been putting hydrocortisone around the wounds and keeping the wounds open to air it seems to help for a while. I hope this is normal

Do not put anything on your wounds unless your Dr says it is OK to do so.

This is probably an allergic reaction. I have the same reaction to certain types of glue on some of the medical dressings. Phone your Dr and ask if it is OK to use a topical antihistamine or if they would prefer you to use an oral one.

I agree with elcee. Don't put anythin on those wounds unless your Dr. Prescribes something.

You can shower, and warm Water with some light soap will help clean the skin, and it will feel better to. But make sure you rinse all soap off.

Certain pain meds will make you itch. I'm badly allergic to demerol so I always take morophine. Morophine always makes me itch. Loratabs will too, I'd say it is a side affect.

I had my surgery march 6th, my surgeon used staples to keep my incisions closed and let me tell you boy do they itch!! I was told by him that this is normal and actually a good thing because it means I'm healing. I can put bacitration on them as well to alleviate some of the itching, but only in the morning and at night!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
